Deleting tags

I have a 102 books tagged with a tag I no longer want. I selected the list of books tagged that and clicked power edit. I did everything I was suppose to however, the tag still shows up as a tag on my profile with the number 102 after it. When I click on it there's nothing there. I don't want it on my profile page either. Any suggestions?

LT doesn't refresh that number in your profile all the time because of performance considerations. You will need to wait for the system to get around to recalculating it. Try checking it again tomorrow.

When people post things like this, I know it is momentarily your problem but, when others, like myself come to this post, we have no clue if the advice of waiting actually worked or not. If you can confirm that others could have some hope.

In my case I have a tag that I accidentally typed in lower case ... so I figured I would just type it out in upper case and delete the lower case tag later. Well as I am adding books, I am adding them I to the upper case choice but, now with multiple computers and phones open we are all seeing that the app is putting stuff in random "case" folders. Kinda like Oh yeah I see you want it in the 1st Edition (Specific Publisher) but, I will add it to 1st Edition (specific publisher) LOWER CASE OPTION... So since I only have 44 books there, I am relabeling all the upper and lower case to a new tag called "SOUTH CAROLINA" until both my upper and lower options have zero books in them. Then I will be looking to see if they will auto delete because no books are there or if I can delete them completely and finally add the proper tag back and cut and paste the 44 books back into the proper tag and delete South Carolina

It doesn't really matter if it worked in 2007 or not because so much has changed in the system since then.

>3 ClearShax: Here in 2020, I've personally had no problem with lingering unused tags when I use the tags page https://www.librarything.com/catalog_tags.php? to edit an existing tag to the new name I want to use for it. Make sure you're on "All Collections" in the sidebar before renaming a tag if you want it changed everywhere you've used it, rather than in one particular collection.

Using the tag page Opteryx suggested is the easiest way to edit a tag. Once, there, just hover over the tag you want to change and you should see a mini-menu with edit option. Changing it that way is a one step job and in my experience momentarily updates your tag list, so no leftover old versions
