David Bowie was a voracious reader. A recent exhibition, David Bowie Is, published his Favorite 100 Books, and that list is making the many rounds this week. That collection has been entered (though edition info needs scrubbed).

Saw an article with that list, and found it interesting: not the typical, and also not pretentious. An eclectic mix of fiction, non-fiction, verse. Seemingly in keeping with the public persona(e), to be sure.

Thanks for creating the Legacy Library.

A friend of mine who chatted with him in the early '90s said they discussed my late husband's book, Real Magic. Bowie said he owned it and liked it. Also said the same about the works of Janet and Stewart Farrar. Bowie was a bit of an occultist, with a familiarity with Aleister Crowley and a fondness for A.E. Waite.

This is a pretty neat list, indeed. I read something this week to the effect that Bowie had a massive collection of books, but I can't put it to hand again.

Will Legacify this over the weekend!

Awesome! Maybe we should put together a wiki page or even just a google drive folder to dump articles and interviews where he mentions books that could be added to a full-on LL.

Fantastic idea. I did a bunch of them in an LT list when the exhibition first released the details (last year, I think?). Maybe it will help? http://www.librarything.com/list/872/all/David-Bowies-Top-100

I'd like to join the Legacy Project group when one gets set up :-)

I would also like to see a library of the albums he owned. He had around 2,500 records! Here's a top 25 list:

>9 dmg111: Ooh, that's a great idea if we can get our hands on the info. Perhaps as a collection within the LL?

Sounds good to me! I'm currently "guardian" of the David Bowie LL log in, so if anyone else wants to add these albums, you'd be very welcome. Shoot me a PM.

I still have the 1980's poster of him reading the Idiot (Russian literature) from the American Library Association ... Always loved David Bowie ... What a treasure to still have the poster ...

Albums have now been added with the comments from Bowie on each. Thanks Michael.Rimmer!

David Bowie’s son, the screenwriter Duncan Jones, has launched the David Bowie book club. He describes his dad as being a beast of a reader. I’ll be back with a link as soon as I can get to something bigger than a cell phone.
