I'm sure you all know already ;-) :

Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

"Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances.

The affected batteries were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4.

Apple is voluntarily recalling the affected batteries and has initiated a worldwide exchange program to provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge. ..."

Has anyone sent their iBook or PowerBook back for the exchange? It doesn't seem like it's worth it, given that there are only 7 (last I heard) documented cases of explosion.

The only reason I can think of to actually send it in would be if more airlines prohibit Macs on their flights, and I needed to fly on said airline soon.

No, you register on the Apple site if your iBook/PowerBook 'qualifies' (see link in post 1), they send you the battery, you send the old battery back (Apple pays the return costs).

Thanks, sunny. All this time I under the impression that I had to send my battery back to Apple, and use the adaptor the whole time it was getting fixed. I'm glad you cleared this up for me.

Thanks!

:-)

(the official advice is to take the battery out until you have the new one, but I don't expect a lot of people to do that ;-) )
