When you add a tag to a book it is immediately available to sort your own books but the seems to be a time delay before they are visible globally so that other's see your tags and it influences things like tag mirror an the like.

It doesn't surprise me that tags aren't updated instantly but a month ago I added about 20 books along with tags and none of those tags are visible globally yet.

Has the updating of tags been frozen for some reason?

>1 katukov: We don't know the actual timing-- if there is one. It seems to usually be about every 4 to 6 weeks. However, once it was longer than 2 years. So be patient.

I checked back: books I entered the beginning of March 2015 do not show tags, but those in February do show my tags. So, LT at this point is about 14 weeks behind.

Thanks for both replies. I'm surprised it can be so long but it is reassuring to know that simply a little patience is required.

Does anyone know if it is tags or books that are updated?

I mean is there a log of all changes of tags that it the computer proceeds thru or is it that it periodically checks all the books in the system and updates the tags found that are related to each book?

I think the computer checks all the book in a herculanean effort. Tags with 2015 are the ones we are most missing out on at this point in time.

Your reply is very useful - I know now what to look out for. But it is a little depressing to think that it may be months before admin will risk another herculanean event. It does undermine the value of tags - and the way tags work on Librarything is one its best things.

Does post 7 have anything to do with the rest of the thread? I'm not seeing the connection.

Tag clouds cover your entire account; there is no way to filter them. You can filter your tag lists by Collection on the "Tags" page.

I'm not sure how selecting multiple tags at once as is suggested by the list plays into any of this. Help?

It's not at all inane, and in fact a number of people have been asking about it with the new media feature; I was just wondering why you chose this particular thread to post it to (rather than starting a new one), and if I had missed something terribly obvious, as I often do.

I think we are getting a significant lag in tasgs being globally applied. I have a book I added on March 8, Senlin Ascends where the unique tags I put on this book can't be seen on the title page. Example is my tag 'New Babel'.
