Spoilers are inevitable in this thread -- beware!

I am surprised that When Everything Feels Like the Movies wasn't the first book voted off. I think Lainey did an excellent job presenting it!

I must admit I am shocked by today's result...I really thought The Inconvenient Indian would win.

I haven't listened yet -- don't know why -- but I may know the winner before I start. Although I'm finding it hard to care this year, I sort of hoped King's book would win. And I do wish I cared, which is probably why I'm here commenting on these threads.

Lynn, are you the only one listening?

Okay, I went to the CBC website to listen to the first show and I remember one of the reasons why I don't care. Last year Wab Kinew really turned me off. I found him overly aggressive and self-important without the charm of Jian Ghomeshi (cuz Jian was definitely self-important). So I will see . . . but I'm just not interested in Wab, although I'm open to having him change my mind.

I like Wab....he's got a tough job as a new host. Some people have said he was obviously biased in favour of The Inconvenient Indian book, but I didn't see that.

I like Wab. He's doing reasonably well for a newbie to the job and seems to be improving in the second show. I do wish he would stop dropping the "g" on the end of words, and not use words like "awesome" to show enthusiasm. I expect he might continue to get better.

I'm all caught up now. Yes, Wab is doing a good job--he hasn't annoyed me or make me roll my eyes once. I didn't see him being biased to the Thomas King book at all.

I think Martha Wainwright didn't do a good job of defending And the Birds Rained Down. It deals with the right to die, which is so topical with the recent Supreme Court ruling. And, with mental illness. She focused too much on "living off the grid".

So, unfortunately, I wasn't able to avoid the spoilers today before listening to Wed's and Thurs's episodes.

I haven't read any. I use the show to decide which I will read (if I haven't already read them). So, I am planning to read Intolerable, When Everything Feels Like the Movies (even though I didn't like how Lainey defended it, but I'm interested in the subject), and The Inconvenient Indian (but that was already chosen for a f2f book club read. However, I'm sure I would have added it, anyway!

I'm undecided about Ru and And the Birds Rain Down doesn't seem interesting to me. I wonder if >8 LynnB: was right, in that it was how it was presented. I guess I should admit to being so busy I wasn't taking the time to listen closely, so I'm sure I missed lots, but all I remember about what they said about it was all the octogenarian sex.

don't get your hopes up...there isn't much sex in And The Birds Rained Down. It was my personal favourite, but I did think The Inconvenient Indian would win.

All the books were short this year...you could easily read them all.
