I just had to return Cinder Edna to the library, so I thought I'd post about it here. Edna (it's my grandma-in-law's name, so I love it!) lives next door to Cinder Ella, and is also poorly done to by her stepsisters. But her attitude differs diametrically from Ella's. She grabs life with both hands, and isn't dazzled by royalty.

I do love the variations on the old stories.

Um--there's a mistake on that poster--Ellen Jackson wrote Cinder Edna--Kevin O'Malley is the illustrator.

I think it more interesting to see the early variations of the story (and other early fairy tales and nursery tales) rather than the modern retellings of the theme. It is a surprisingly universal story.
