I raided the Friends of the Library sale and came away with 29 books for $43. Some of them I've been looking for a long time. Goodies include Edward W. Said's Orientalism, Rebecca West's Black Lamb, Grey Falcon, lots of history and art books. varielle is very happy.

Fantastic buy for $43.00. Ex-Library sales are worthwhile sale to look forward.

Surplus warehouse/store stocks from the bookshops are another fantastic "point of sale" gimmick by the stores to visit their stores with hopes of the customers buying other brand new books.

Bought: The Gathering by Anne Enright, Man Booker Prize 2007, new, surplus , hardback for approx US$3.00 -
published price: US$24.00

Out of the Storm: The Life and Legacy of Martin Luther by Derek Wilson new, surplus, hardback for approx US$6.00 -
published price: US$29.95

Good bargains for new but surplus(unsold) book titles.
Book prices in Singapore are very steep especially for just released titles.

Ex-library sales over in my country are held twice per year at the central library, there will be a big rush of book lovers looking for good books with a crowd of few thousands going in time stages in a very short duration.

Opening time is the best time to get "good" titles getting rid by the centralised collection of "old books" from all library's branches to make spaces for new books.

My birthday's not far off, so I decided to give myself a present of three titles I heard about through _Publishers Weekly_:

* The Notting Hill Mystery by Charles Warren Adams

* The Female Detective by Andrew Forrester

* Revelations of a Lady Detective by William Stephens Hayward

All 3 are 19th century novels republished by British Library. No idea about the stories, beyond that. Have read and enjoyed The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katharine Green and The Law and the Lady by Wilkie Collins....

Ordered today, should have them in about a week.

Bought on Halloween, so I didn't start a new thread: the new hardcover by Charlie Lovett. _First Impressions_ is a novel about books.
