My sister-in-law has self-published a book of essays and I'd like to write a review for her. I did enjoy the book (phew!) but I feel it is somewhat dishonest to write a review and not to add a disclaimer saying I am related to her. Any thoughts on how to handle this? Thanks.

I don't think you need do anything more than state the relationship at the beginning or end of the review. Just something like, "Although this book was written by my sister-in-law, I liked it anyway!" or "Bias up front, the author is my sister-in-law." No need to go into a whole megillah, but you are right that it should be mentioned.

Thanks. A simple statement to just get it out there appeals to me.
