I'm a retired cataloger/librarian who is putting a church library on LT (BCCLibrary) while also maintaining their card catalog. Why? -- because there is no computer in the library & their older members can't access the Internet at home. The collection is classified with Dewey numbers, which I add to LT as tags in parentheses, i.e. (220.7 HEN). I've devised a simple way to translate the LT data into catalog card format on labels, which I then print & affix to blank cards. I sort the cards at home (author, title/keywords, shelf list) so they're ready to be filed in the card catalog. If you need more info on this procedure, please contact me & I'll provide step-by-step instructions along with sample labels. -- Ruth in Colorado

Hi, Ruth-- what method have you devised for printing labels from LT data? I am interested in printing Author/Title labels to use on book cards for circulation purposes in our church library. I set up one of our LT display schemes to include just Author (Last, First) and Title in two columns for this purpose, assuming I might be able to export the data in Excel and then somehow print labels. I'd appreciate learning what you did for the catalog cards, and maybe I can adapt it to the book card idea.

Thanks!

Steven, I don't have Excel but here is the label-printing method I use in Microsoft Works (adapted for book cards) that you can try:

1. In Excel or Word, create a template for Avery 5160 labels (30 per sheet), which fit on a book card.
2. In LT, click on Your Books, then click the display style you've set up (A-E) for Author/Title only.
3. Click the Printer Icon ("Show Printable Catalog") that appears at the end of the Display Style row.
4. Highlight/select the author/title record(s) that need book card labels. Click Edit, then Copy.
5. Paste the selected record(s) into an editable document, then re-format the author/title lines as you want
them to display on your book card labels.
6. Highlight/select a re-formatted record, then go to the Avery 5160 label template & click the Paste icon (or
Edit, then Paste). Note: If you can transfer more than one record at a time so that they will all align
properly on the label sheet, this process will be much speedier.
7. Print the completed labels on a sheet of Avery 5160 (or compatible) labels & affix them to the book cards.

Hope the above method works for you; I welcome any suggestions for improvements from you (or other church librarians who read this post). -- Ruth in Colorado
