Hello All,

I am writing my very first novel, and I would like to have some serious critique before I continue. I have about 21,000 words so far, so there is a long way to go yet! I would like to know whether I am too wordy, not wordy enough, too descriptive, not descriptive enough, etc. Do you care about my characters? Do you want to know what happens to them? That sort of thing...

Here is the book synopsis:

"The year is 1612. Simon Sinclair, pressed into service in a Portuguese merchant ship as a youth along with his cousin Jamie, spends years returning to his home in Scotland. Now captain of his own ship, he ferries soldiers to Norway during the Kalmar War where they plan to trek across country to fight for Sweden against Denmark and Norway. They are ambushed along the way and most are massacred; a few are taken prisoner. But Simon, left for dead, escapes into the mountains and heads back to his ship.

Kari Pålsdatter, tending her family's cattle, goats and sheep at their mountaintop seter, comes across an unconscious Simon and nurses him back to health. Once he has recovered, he continues to his ship, both of them unaware that Kari is now carrying his child.

He returns to King James VI and I, makes his report, and attempts to continue his life. But he cannot forget the beautiful Norwegian girl he left behind."

Any takers? I would be sooooo grateful!

I'd be willing to take a look at the first few chapters, Debbi.
