Hi all. I'm glad to find this group at LT. I am fairly new to LT and brand new to your group and so I hope this first post is not redundant with previous ones.

I hope I don't sound like a salesman here, but I'm excited about this and feel that everyone interested in ghost fiction should know that this year's World Fantasy Convention has a theme of "Ghosts and Revenants", and will feature plenty of ghost-fiction-related panel discussions, displays and other attractions. Key figures in the current ghost fiction community will be there, such as Barbara and Christopher Roden, who run Ash-Tree Press and the Ghost Story Society, Jim Rockhill, ghost story author and editor of the Ash-Tree Sheridan le Fanu set, Peter Straub, Scott Connors, co-editor of the Night Shade complete Clark Ashton Smith series, S.T. Joshi, Michael Dirda, probably the greatest champion of ghost stories among mainstream critics, and probably others I don't know about.

The name of the convention may conjure images of halls full of people in elf costumes, but this is far from the case. This is a highly professional and literary conference, with a limited attendance that is liberally rostered with people working in the field. The nice thing about this convention is that folks like these know that the attendees are seriously interested and are more approachable for new acquaintances of like mind than they might be in other venues.

The convention is in Saratoga Springs, NY, November 1-4, 2007. More info is here:

I'm not affiliated with the convention but I wouldn't miss it for anything. Are there other folks in the group who are going?

Boy, the chance to actually meet Barb & Chris Roden! Any subscibers to the Ghosts & Scholars M. R. James newsletter owe them a great deal for plugging away for so long for a small audience.
I don't subscribe to All Souls any more, but it was always an interesting read. And S. T. Joshi edited the recent Penguin editions of the ghost stories of M. R. James. I soooo wish I could go; but if you work in retail, any vacation after October is a pipe dream.

If anyone is going there, please come back here and let us know all about it.

I totally agree with your sentiments, as you probably could guess :-)

I am definitely going, and will try to bring back a report.

P.S. The journal that the Rodens edit for the Ghost Story Society (actually called ALL HALLOWS) is indeed a little known gem, and I hope you might try it again - the last couple of years have been excellent and the issues are now quite thick as well.
