The old thread isn't full, just, well, old and dormant. So, perhaps, time to start a new one. Somewhat surprised that there isn't a lot of poem-posting (unless I'm missing the thread where it's all happenin', poetry-wise - though I did search a bit).

I go through phases with poems. Either I'm into a poem-a-day mood (cue The Writer's Almanac) or I don't read them for months. These days, I'm in the former mood. I'm also doing a Weekend Poem feature on my blog, where I include some more information about and around the selected poem. Posted one today.

One thing prevails in all of this: just like some people have songs that they identify with for defining moments in their lives, for me, that's how it is with poems.

How about you? Do you like poems in your daily literary diet? Where do you get your poetry fix from? What sort of poetry do you prefer - classic, contemporary or whatever strikes your fancy? Who or what is your current favorite poet/poem?

Let's try to revive this Poetry Group a bit, shall we? :)

PS Right now, one of my many favorites is the one I posted today: The Well by Padma Sachdev and you'll see why when you read the story behind it.

Edited to add this link: PBS Newshour's Poetry Series kicked off on Sep 12. Good stuff.

Just for fun, here's the 'sonnet' I wrote at Warwick. Don't blame me for the first line -it was given to us as a starting point! (sorry, not a favourite, but you sounded lonely)

You are hateful in all you say and do
You do not listen to a word I say
It's time I left and found somebody new
And left you to go on your own sweet way.

You denigrate my work, you snub my friends
You think I'll wait on you both night and day
You'll never know until our marriage ends
That I have never loved you, anyway.

I tried to be the partner you desired
I shared your home, your passions and your bed
But battling with you has made me tired
I now need to be free from you, instead.

Must I explain whatever made me go
Or is it something you will never know?

A nice piece of work. It is original.Do you have anymore of your poetry to share?

I liked it.

#4 Lots. I was one of the four who contributed to "Honey and Humbug," a little booklet of nostalgic verses by pensioners in Sussex and I used to put new poems on my profile but I stopped as I didn't get any comments. The other effort from Warwick was a bit different.

Five a.m. I have not slept
It is not the laughter, shouts
or banging doors
keep me awake.

It is not food or wine
coffee or conversation
that forbid sleep.

It is the opening of a long-shut gate
into a garden of ideas.

All growth had wilted with my long neglect.
Snail-like, I slept inside old habit's shell.

But being here is as if
Sun and rain
combine to heal my garden
and my brain.

Are there any titles for your poems ?

Suggested titles: 1.Till Death, Do Us Apart, But Happen Much Sooner

2.Sleepless at Five in the Morning

Your compiled poems are worthy to be published. Your poetry is very contemporary.

I suppose the first one could be 'Leaving' and the second was 'The Writing Festival' but they were only exercises. I'll put some more on my profile when I have time so I don't monopolise this thread.
