Hello everyone. Am new to LT and to having a kitten. I started the other way round. I rescued my beloved ginger OAP 2 years ago. A year ago I rescued a teen cat and 2 weeks ago I was given the bundle of energy that is an approx 10 week kitten.
My OAP has trained me up in the basics... but am a novice with kittens. Any tips ? He is litter trained.
Thank you.

Lots of stimulation, lots of play, feather toys, other things. Your other cats will socialize him, too. We just got a kitten two summers ago and it was such a joy. He really livened up our older cats and gave them a new outlook on life!

anna is right about the other cats socializing him. Also training him! i will never forget when we got a kitten who was using a toy that had a ball in it and she was playing very noisily with it. Voodoo, who was our eldest at that point, walked over and wacked her right on top of her head! I guess Voodoo felt the kitten should ask first or shouldn't be so noisy. Came as quite a shock to the kitten.

What does OAP stand for? I thought I knew lots of cat slang lingo but don't know this one.

I forget there's likely to be some stuff lost in translation. I'm in England and OAP is for Old Age Pensioner. :) ( someone over whatever is the current age of retirement. Oli my ginger is prob about 13. Joey was prob about 1 when I rescued him. Now he's,about 2. He drove Oli mad. Now who is getting all the unwarranted attention?
There's a lot of swiping being done... guess that's socialization? :)

Oh that's cute! I know a new English acronym.

I think cats are often pretty physical with their youngsters, I think it works out OK! My young one still likes to jump on the older ones even though he's been chastised many times.

Where are you ?
They're pretty good at telling their humans off too aren't they ? Never known an animal say so much just by say just doing The Stare...
