I'm recommending some Seinen manga for adult male. I don't have time to explain each title right now, but I'm working on it.

DARKHORSE
Berserk
Blade of the Immortal
Eden
Samurai Executioner

TOKYOPOP
Beck
Dragon Head
Planetes
Lament of the Lamb

VIZ
Monster
Phoenix
Vagabond

DEL REY
Love Roma
Mushishi
Genshiken

Be sure to check out GANTZ and MPD-Psycho, new licenses by Dark Horse. If you got your own recommendation, please share them.

Well I'm an adult female, but I mostly read seinen... maybe I should sink my head low and let out a gigantic sigh ;)

Some of my favorites, with links (I used the English titles where applicable):
* Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo
* Battle Angel Alita series by Yukito Kishiro (it does get really annoying every now and then, though...)
* anything by Tsutomu Nihei (but especially Blame!)
* Eden by Hiroki Endo
* Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow
* Homunculus by Hideo Yamamoto (possibly my favorite currently running series)
* Lament of the Lamb by Kei Toume
* Naru Taru by Mohiro Kitoh (someone's argued here that it's shounen, but I don't agree; while it elaborates on a typical children's theme - pocket monsters, LOL -, it is definitely not appropriate for a shounen audience and it originally ran in a seinen magazine)
* Planetes by Makoto Yukimura
* Shonen shojo by Satoshi Fukushima (no, this is neither shounen nor shoujo, LOL)
* Train Man (seinen version by Hidenori Hara)
* Venus Wars by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (this is my latest find, I just picked up vol. 1 in the bargain bin, now I need to get ahold of the rest because it was pretty neat - the storyline shows promise and the artwork is really cool)

What is there that I don't really like... hmmm... Shamo is interesting based on the first volume, especially because I used to do karate, but there is so little text in there that I could read the whole volume in less than half an hour and felt quite ripped off ;) The minute I find the other volumes in the bargain bin it's a buy, though. The first volume of The Legend of Mother Sarah was also somewhat of a disappointment (this is also quite recent... I read it yesterday), even though the artwork was nice... it just felt soulless somehow.

No offensive to any female that read seinen manga, actually it would be great if more female do. =P

Those recommendation are all great titles... the only one I haven't read yet is Venus War, Shonen Shojo and Naruto Taru, I need to check 'em out

Also I just finish Apollo Song and it's pretty good read. Not as good as Tezuka's other manga like Buddha or Phoenix but I'm glad I have it in my collection.

Thanks. Didn't like Berserk. Tried a Battle Angel Alita the other day, it was ok. That is deliberately done for adults, that one, then?

I don't think Shonen Shojo is available in English, and as for Naru Taru, only the lower-numbered books are out... and I hear they've been edited considerably. (Even the German versions were edited slightly - at least one volume - which is odd given they don't tend to edit out anything...)

Yup I guess BAA is aimed at adults, especially the new series.

I can't really decide whether Boogiepop is sufficiently adult, but if it is, then I recommend that one too, especially the novels.... I've only read one volume of the manga, it was OK (the anime was really great), but the novels are where it's at.

BTW Kino no tabi is also great, but there's no manga, only novels and anime. I hear the first volume has been completely butchered in English though (I read it in German).

It feels kind of odd that these "light novels" are classified as seinen, but apparently they are (at least Wikipedia says so ;) ), and I as an adult definitely enjoy them. But then again, I have a Hello Kitty side bag, so maybe I'm not representative of all adults in general, LOL.

As for Berserk, I only watched the anime, it was OK, but not the height of anime I guess. I didn't feel inclined to read the manga afterwards. My brother did read a few volumes, though... but then he dropped it.

BTW does anyone also have recommendations for more mature shounen? I'm thinking of stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist or Death Note (though I'm beginning to get tired of that series). There is a heap of shounen in German (much more than seinen... well I guess that's true everywhere), but I don't really know what's worth buying.

I'll second Mushishi, it's very good. Though I prefer 100 demons which is not available in English yet.

I'm also enjoying Emma and Blood Alone. It's a nice change from all the sax and violins typically featured in seinen manga.

I've just read Eden #14, does anyone else think the series is going downhill fast? *sigh*

.... Sax and violins?

... I guess I haven't read enough seinen manga to know what you mean by that. I am reading Emma though, and I adore it. I'm not sure I totally understand how that qualifies as a seinen manga; my friends all adore it and we're all 27-30 year old girls!

Shoujo and seinen are marketing categories and where a title falls in those buckets depends on which magazine they were serialized in. I'd have to go look it up, but Emma was published in a seinen magazine.

Sex and violence I would guess.
