Hello! I have been drinking classic black tea and English breakfast with my mother since I was little. I recently have started to try other types and have fallen in love with Earl Grey. I was wondering if you all could help give me suggestions of different teas to try, those that would be of a similar flavor to Earl Grey or any interesting flavors. Keeping in mind a lower cost as I don't have a lot of money, but would love to broaden my tea horizons! Thanks in advance!!

There are many different variations on Earl Grey; perhaps you would enjoy trying some of them!

Have you tried green tea yet? Jasmine green tea is very pleasant.

I have just begun to explore. I haven't tried green tea yet as I read some of the discussions and am afraid that I would dislike it due to improper brewing and not give it a true chance! Suggestions on brewing? Sorry I know I'm basically tea newbie!!

There are many different green teas. There are also many printed charts showing brewing time and temperature for different teas. Try them as you can. For now, stay away from the whole bag vs loose tea debate. In time this will make sense. Many of us carry things to an extreme and have different pot, cups etc for the different teas, others get much enjoyment with any old cup with any old tea.
Just enjoy each cup.

A good way to start is to hit local health food stores for bulk tea varieties. You can buy inexpensively by the ounce without committing yourself to a pricey purchase.

One can drown in information and reviews there, but steepster.com is s site/community for tea junkies, just pick a brand of tea and you'll find tons of reviews and comments to guide your selections.

Teadog.com is a great site with lots of "supermarket" (read: not terribly expensive) teas from around the world. If you like black tea and English Breakfast, maybe try Irish or Scottish Breakfast. Or some Afternoon black teas. You'd be surprised how the flavors of black tea can vary! Barry's Tea, from Ireland, is a favorite of mine for Irish Breakfast and I like Bodie's for the Scottish blends. Enjoy!

If you would like to read a book about tea, as a general introduction to the subject, I recommend New Tea Lover's Treasury by James Norwood Pratt. He is knowledgeable and readable. It will give you some ideas of teas to look out for!

I've just acquired this book, and although I've only so far read the erudite introduction I have a feeling that it's the ultimate book for tea enthusiasts. Its historical content seems wonderfully researched, and is very entertaining.

I'd like to suggest Russian Caravan. If you are lucky you'll find it at a supermarket but it should be easy to get online. It's a strong and earthy tasting tea but not as strong as Earl Grey.

I was drinking a Russian Caravan a few years ago and agree, it is an exciting, excellent cup.
