Have we all written a full-length novel?

Just wondering if everyone here writes long fiction, or just short stories and non- fic.

Working on my first longer work of fiction now, but so far have only published short stories and non-fiction.

Memoir and short stories loosely based on reality.

I've published short stories, and have written two novels, one short and one voluminous: the first draft ms. was 1500 pages. Which is being cut (with great suffering) to a publishable length.

I have written very, very many novels. Some of them were published by small press companies, but in the last two years I've moved over to the world of indie publishing. One of the things that pushed me to the indie world was the realization that even if I found a publisher that loved my work, they couldn't keep up with me, let alone work through the older pieces.

This is a list of what I've written (or at least the stuff I'll claim -- there is more!) -- but it's already almost a year out of date and there are a few more novels and shorter works to add in now. Also, a few of the shorter short stories were reworked into flash fiction pieces for my blog. Yeah, I need to update. I'll put that on my never-ending-list-from-hell.

I've written—and had published—short fiction. I've written six novels, the first of which will be published November 25. One fantasy, three mysteries, one romance and the one that will be published is romantic suspense (a thriller with a happily ever after).

Written lots of short stories, plus I have ten novels in various states from editing to just starting.

Sold an article, and a couple short stories, and written a dozen novels.
I've also done a graphic novel, which I'm serializing as a webcomic, although it's available as an ebook as well.

Three novels published, three under contract. I only write long--writing short fiction is a different skill set, I think.

One non-fiction book published, a second not published (sad story here about theft of a computer with back-up inside it during the pre-cloud era), a third almost done (it's on my other screen right now!); a full-length fiction manuscript on hold in the middle of its third set of revisions; a second fiction book begun but not completed. I only read book-length fiction, too, so at least I am consistent.

My first book was just long enough to be called a full novel (50,000 words). My second, which I am editing now, is a bit longer at around 88,000 words.

I've just completed my first novel (84,000 words) and it's in the hands of an editor. It's a time travel thriller wrapped around a love story. I'm trying to decide whether to go traditional or Indie.

I've self published two nonfiction books with createspace.

The contract editor who marked cuts on my monstrous (1000-page) novel ms. a few years ago e-mailed me that of all the manuscripts she'd edited, mine was the one that stuck in her memory. Music to my ears, of course. My agent said it was very good but the subject was too specialised, and he couldn't sell it. With several other pursuits, I've not picked it up since.

She said that she'd learned a lot since working on my novel and would like the chance to work on it again, free of charge. So I just sent a fresh manuscript to her (I prefer working with edits from a paper copy). I said that she should keep track of her time and we'd negotiate payment— I'm generous, having edited for pay.

I certainly owe her for rekindling my confidence.

I just finished my first novel. I've previously stalled out on three novels, like around 50,000 words each. Felt good to actually finish one.

I have written 2 middle grade fiction novels. They are both around 25,000 words each. They are both self published. It is a series that I am working on.I also have another little bit shorter fiction middle grade book. It still has to be edited and illustrated.

My first two novels came in around 170,000 words each. My publisher told me my first book was too long to publish and ask me to go through it again. I added 20k more. His comment was never mind we'll go with the first version. haha He didn't bother asking on the second one; they just published it. I have written and published two additional novels, but they came in at just over 100,000. It took much effort on my part to keep the word count at that level.

Three novels finished, one published. Other two are in edits, and I've got a few WiPs on backburners at the moment.

Probably starting another novel soon. It sounds counterproductive, but it's not -- it's the second in a series that starts with one of the novels I'm editing, and I kind of need to start the second book before I can really finish editing the first. Which probably sounds really weird, but it's how I roll.

I also write poetry and have published one book of it. I have troubles with short fiction; I'm naturally verbose. (Published novel is 250,000~ words.) I keep trying as and when inspirations strikes, however. Eventually I'll find a rhythm, or I won't, and I'll just continue with long-form fiction. ^_^

I write YA and science fiction. On my third novel now, but quite a bit of my work has been the novella or short story.

I've read 80,000 is a good target word count. My first published novel came in at about 120,000. I was happy with the end result, so that's what I'm shooting for with the sequel.

I jumped straight in after two years working on another project with an epic novel at 214,000 words. Published in paperback and released on kindle about three weeks ago. I'm working on a sequel that involves a few of the surviving characters. This time I'm aiming at 80,000.

Nonfiction only so far -- academic book chapters and reference entries under my own name, plus a few newspaper column articles under a pen name.

Been writing and publishing in various venues since age 14. That was a serial article in a newspaper, "America's Criminal Disease", an article on the affects of racial discrimination.
Since then have written a number of poems and short stories published in various small magazines and poetry collections.
Then in 2002 my first published novel, Good Intentions, won the Alice B. Reader Award for Excellence.
In 2013, Mountain Springs House published three novels: second edition of Good Intentions; Dead Men and Cats; Sketch of a Murder, Book 1 of the Special Crimes Team series.

I've written and published 3 full-length novels, but I've also written many, many short stories. Before I started my first real novel (before which I wrote 4 "novels" that were really novelettes), I was working on a series that would have been 60 short stories. But, I set it aside to concentrate on my novels.

I don't think I have ever written a short story, but I am working on my eighth novel length book. Six have been published, one is pending publication, and another in the final stages. I really enjoy writing; it is a passion.

I published my first novel Playing Botticelli several years ago and just recently received back the rights from the publisher so I releasing it this week as an e-book. Am about to self-publish my second novel in a few months and have two more in the pipeline. I love writing long works of fiction but I am very, very slow at it although I write short pieces on short deadlines all the time.

I write travel guides and novels - usually between 70K and 100K. I don't know if I can do short stories, I'm very long-winded :) Four published, two more written, one half-written. This is while working full-time. I ninja-write in stolen minutes :)

I just released my psych thriller debut, Every Ounce You Got To Give. Would appreciate if some of you good folks here, checked it out and left me a review. So far, people seem to love it, but haven't been leaving reviews like I've asked adamantly. Although, I still appreciate their support.

Yes, I've written a 137236 word historical fiction. It was a labor of love but has taken umpteen re-writes. But it's finished and I'd love to offer a free Ecopy to anyone who'd like to see it. One condition . . . you need to write a review about it. It's called Footprints in the Forest. If you're interested contact me; thefootrprintsintheforest@gmail.com and/or jkrides@aol.com. Thanks!!!

>32 LheaJLove:, my grandfather did that (born 1908) and we're grateful to have it.

Have I written a novel? Sure, if you count all those manuscripts dropped into the drawer. :)

Soon to be joined by the one I'm writing, no doubt. :(

My historical novel about the beginning of the Revolutionary War was printed in 2011. I am presently writing a novel about Algonquian natives at and near Roanoke Island in 1583 and 1584.

I've written several full length novels, and have published none of them. They were practice. Instead, I published a full length history of a civil war regiment, Hoffman's Army: The 31st Virginia Infantry, CSA.

And now, I'm working on three full-length history books, and two science fiction novels. I'm hoping all of those are not "for practice."

>40 David-W-Wooddell:, just as an idea, a good market for your book would be anyone whose ancestors served with that infantry unit. I highly prize works like this when I can find it for anyone in my family tree. Not sure how you advertise to reach that market, though; maybe by creating an ancestry.com account and citing your own work as a source?
