The Readathing has begun!
Logbook thread, for reporting your reading: http://www.librarything.com/topic/155221
Wiki page, for signing up and adding reading hours: http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadaThingJune2013
It's been too long since we've had a ReadaThing. This month is too soon, and May is going to be incredibly busy for me - but I propose a RaT for June. I like the week-long, so Wednesday to Tuesday, starting at midnight GMT.
People with kids - would early (while the kids are still in school) or later (when they're out), be better? Either works for me (no kids)(and yes, I know everyone's on a different schedule these days. If there isn't a mid-June dividing line for you, just ignore the question).
1. May 29 - June 4
2. June 5 - June 11
3. June 12 - June 18
4. June 19 - June 25
5. June 26 - July 2
Not doing polls. Just post which week is best (and second best, if you like), and if there's any that absolutely won't work for you. If a lot of responders can't do a week, we'll skip that one. I will decide on a week, by fiat if necessary, on May 13th - in time for the State of the Thing (right, Jeremy?).
I'm not putting a theme on the RaT itself. However, if anyone wants to propose a theme, I'll post it in the setup thread and on the Wiki (or you can), so that others may choose to participate in that theme. Sort of like the TIOLI challenge - where part of the fun is "how can I make this book fit one of the themes?". Extra points (highly virtual points) for reading a book that fits multiple themes (though not if you picked the theme! That's too easy).
For newcomers to the RaT - this is not a readathon, we don't expect anyone to read for a full week. If everything works out right, though, we have _someone_ reading for every hour during the whole week. There will be a wiki page for signing up for specific times; you can also sign up for general reading (which is what I mostly do, I'm never sure enough of my schedule), and then if you like you can put in when you actually read (to help fill in the schedule). There will be a complete timeline list, showing times in various timezones and when the days begin and end, to help you in scheduling your reading time. We'll all discuss what we choose to read, and you can (or not, if you don't want to) post about what and where and how you'll be reading (on the bus on the way to work. Curled up in my reading spot, with a cat next to me and a cup of tea. While watching the kids at the playground...). Pictures are nice but far from required. And when you're done, you can post a quick review (or, again, not). It's mostly for the fun of sharing reading time with people from all around the world.

I'm game. No real preference for any particular week.
3Ameise1
I'm in again and all those weeks are fine for me.
Thanks a lot for organising it. I'll really missed the Readathing.

3>Me too. And I think my life will have settled down a little by June, so it will work.
6AnnieMod
My schedule tends to be crazy but I never go through a week without reading so I am game for either week
7AngelaB86
Those all work for me. I'm looking forward to it, it's been a long time since I participated in a readathon!
10jjmcgaffey
Looks like it will be by fiat - roll the dice and see what comes up. Which works fine...

FIAT
The ReadaThing will begin Tuesday, June 11 at midnight GMT and run until midnight GMT Monday, June 17 (in both cases, the midnight between Monday and Tuesday). (I adjusted the days just because it works better for me, especially at the beginning and end of the the RaT.)
I'll put up the wiki this week, with the full multi-time-zone schedule and all the rest. See you there!

Looking forward to it.

The wiki's up, if anyone knows their schedule this far in advance.

There's a link at the end of the page to a PDF of the complete times for the RaT. Please, someone take a look at it and make sure I didn't screw up somewhere? Jean?

To avoid confusion I think you should change the header from "GMT" to actually saying "UTC/GMT". GMT is also used for British standard time which is UTC/GMT + 1.

Jennifer, there isn't a field for the date, or a date anywhere on the main sign up table. Otherwise looks good to me.
21jjmcgaffey
20> A field for the date? The hours cover the entire time - I put the days on the midnights. Do you think we need a date on the days as well? Seems overkill to me.
19> OK, I'll make it UTC/GMT. Done.

#21 - Hmmm Jenn, when I look at it I see no date anywhere, just times for multiple days. Maybe it's me???
ETA: I'm speaking of the table only.
ETA2 : Oh. I see, I think. Two letters to indicate day of the week. I'd completely missed that. Duh...

I will join in! I never pass up a moment to just read for an hour or so!
28shesinplainview
Oh yes! Any week!

All four of my kids get out of school on May 29th, but other than June 16th thru June 23rd I'm good for whever. My only issue is this is my first and I've not had time to read the entire article of how to's and what's expected so I'll have to give it a good read to see what I'm in for but I'm game :)
31rainpebble
I am so in. Looking forward to it.
32mrs.monster13
I'm in. I can commit to an hour a day, but I can't give a specific time since I have a toddler. Is that ok?
35mrs.monster13
Thanks guys! :-)

I've not done this before, but it sounds like fun, so I'm in. No preference on date or theme.

I'm in :) Not sure about exact times though

38> Sign up in the No Timeline readers, then, same as I did - I never know when I'll be able to grab time for reading. Then I put myself into the timeline after the fact (don't have to, but I like it).
Check the Announcement thread, too, for a little more information.

This looks fun! I'm in. I can't commit to specific times on account of wee ones, but I am happy to sign up in the No Timeline section and try to fill in gaps in the schedule where I can.
41Sheila1957
Count me in.
42Boobalack
My daughter and grandson will be here the whole month of June, so I thought at first I couldn't do it. Thank you for the "No Time" option, as we will be reading a lot. One of our favorite things to do is to sit at the kitchen table and read together, as in at the same time. This sounds like fun!

As my Mother (Boobalack) said, one of our favorite things to do is sit at the kitchen table and read together, so count me in!!!
45gaidheal01
I've added my name to the 'no time-line' list, and like some others will enter my reading times post facto.
I'm going to try to read assiduously from my University's library, as I'm coming to the end of my degree and I'd like to make the most of the resources available to me while I'm still a student there. I've just started one book from the library, Camille Saint-Saens and His World, which was published just last year, and I'm already really enjoying it.

Humm... okay will have a go. I have a week off work coming up at the end of June and nothing planned except catching up on my reading
47sharlenehsmith
All signed up! Was able to fill in a few gaps in the time slots being a New Zealand reader. My first time here. Is there a space to contribute to a group chat, to talk with other participants?
48jjmcgaffey
That's the Logbook thread - say what you've read (and where, and when, and how...), discuss your book and what others have read, talk about the progress of the RaT. There's no realtime chat, just the thread.

I am game. no preference for the week.
