Is anyone in this group doing the 50 book challenge or the 1001 books to read before you die?

I am finishing up 36 and 37, so I think I will up my challenge. How are you coming along on that?

I've read 29, but 30 are crossed off the list because I started one and decided it wasn't worth finishing. I'm in the middle of two more (Daily Bible and Churchill's "the Gathering Storm", both long-term reads) and this week I expect a book #3 of a series to come in the mail. Then I'll be able to read books 3-6 and cross those off the list too. :D Those four 3-6 books will finally get my TBR pile to under 200!

An I was feeling overwhelmed with a TBR of about 25!

Oh, to have so few! lol, mine grew from about 150 to just over 200 in the space of a couple months, due to a couple of used book sales and a book give away. But I'm chipping away at them.

I just joined a bookswapping group, so I will be accumulating I am sure.

I'm doing the 1001 and 50-book challenges, although I'm aiming for 100 this year (I'm on No. 56 and my 13th audio book too).
I'm also taking part in the Olympic Challenge (books by authors from each of the countries represented in the Olympic Games) and have challenged myself to read one classic, one modern classic and one chunky book (over 500 pages) every month too.

shew-ee, too ambitious for me! So how many countries in the Olympics? How do you find these books?

#9 mydomino1978 - There are (last time I checked) 210 countries taking part in the Summer Olympics (of course, that could all change when we actually get to 2008!). I tend to just do a little research on the authors to find out where they were born. Wikipedia has also been great as they list authors from various countries too. Also, getting tips from other readers taking part in the same or similar challenges helps, and I'm always trying out writers who are completely new to me.
Of course, there are some authors whose origins might surprise you, for example, I had already read several books by Philippa Gregory before I started the challenge and then discovered that she was born in Kenya!
