You might be interested to visit the National Archives of Australia on your next holiday in Australia's capital city.

Over the next 12 months the cafe will be host to a display of some of the books that raised the ire of the Australian censors. Also included as part of the exhibition are documents revealing some of the actions of the censors.

That is great. I think I have some of those 50's paperbacks! Usually they're not as "spicy" as the covers and blurbs would suggest.

Isn't the cover art just priceless?

Nobody could ever suggest that our censors would have known spicy if it bit them on the nose!

50's Australia was dragged back to extremely conservative in the hope that all those young women who spent the war years working and independent would get back to repopulating the country, putting lovely dinners on the table and be happy with their lot in life!
