Just wanted to let all of you know that Maggie1944 and I are planning a meetup. The American Library Association is coming to Seattle for their mid-winter meeting January 25 - 28, 2013. It will be at the Seattle Convention Center. The beauty of this conference is that day passes to the exhibits can be purchased for $25.00 per day. This allows you to enter the exhibit hall where you can get free ARC's and often can purchased low cost books. (Usually hardbacks and paperbacks are half price off the list price.) We will be meeting at the Exhibits registration booth at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2013 for three hours in the exhibit hall. I will be there to help you get started and explain the rules of the book vendors. We will meet back at a designated spot at 5:00 p.m. when the exhibits will close. From there we plan on adjourning to a local coffee shop where we can eat and meet each other.

Thanks for the free passes LT!

I am now trying to find a coffee shop or some such likely place close to a conference hotel or the Convention Center to which we can retire after the exhibits close. If anybody has a suggestion post it here.

Research on coffee shops is ongoing.....

Registration and free pass completed. Not difficult! You will be asked to print out the confirmation letter to present with a bar code the day you want to go in.

Ellen is continuing to see if eating some dinner at the Palace Cafe is a possibility. Coffee is, IMHO, a last resort. Coffee on Sunday evening is not my idea of being kind to myself.

We shall see.....

What we need is someplace to sit down and talk. Perhaps we can do that in the Convention Center? If all goes well we should be laden with bags of books and other swag and sitting down will be a welcome thing to do.

Okay, regardless of where we might wander, do we have a time and place for convening ourselves?
I'm not buying the day-pass so I won't be laden with swag (sad me), but I'm looking forward to our gathering.

eta: Okay, I read more carefully. I have a basketball game at 2pm so I won't arrive until later, closer to 5pm. I'm happy to meet y'all in the Convention Center, and we can walk to Palace Kitchen or somewhere else for some food and drink.

I am glad you can make it. Let's meet at the Registration Desk at 5 pm and decide what we want to do. We can use my car as there will only be the three of us, I think. Maybe someone from LibraryThing staff could join us, I don't know. I'm thinking the best plan is to plan when we are all face to face.

You do know there were free passes for us thanks to LT, but if I read correctly you are busy up until time to get together!

Registration desk at 5pm. Sounds good. I'm coming directly there from the basketball game so I'll be in U-Dub clothing....

It was very fun. Good food. Good conversation.
And we got to meet Greta (whom I had met before) and Benny. What charming dogs they are!

Just checking in to see how it went. Sounds like it was fun and even dogs were involved! What could be better? I'll check back later for pictures. :)
