I have been furiously searching the internet (and my brain) to remember a book from my childhood. I am hoping that someone on here will be of help! Unfortunately, I can't remember the title. Or the author. But I can describe what I remember of it, as best I can. (Thanks, in advance for even reading this far!)

I believe it was an award winning book. I can remember their being a medal on the cover. I have searched both the newbery and the caldecott lists and don't think I saw it, but I could be wrong.

I remember it from around 1990-1993, but I think that at that point I was a far more advanced reader than the book called for (I was born in 1981). Based on the graphics I wouldn't think that it was published too much before 1980, but can't be positive.

There were pictures on most, if not all pages. They were mostly in black with some blue and (Maybe) some yellow. They were very simple drawings, not quite stick figures but not much more detailed. I can remember specifically a little boy and his friend, a girl. I think I remember an elephant on one page.

The words were in both simple paragraph form, but (I think) some text was also wrapped around the graphics. The prose was a little sing-songy "I am me. And you are You. together we are friends" (not actual words, but more of an example of what the words were like.) I think that there were some puns, as well.

I don't know for sure that i am remembering it correctly. But I am a mom now and remember loving that book. I was tranced by the words and artistry. I want my daughter to love it too.

Any help you can give me would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You probably meant to post here - but please, PLEASE start by reading the tips for posting, especially when it comes to your heading.

I assumed that there was a group along the lines of "name that book" on here, but couldn't find it. I also am a member of many online communities and assumed that there was a "tips for posting" page but couldn't find it, either. Every forum and every site has different guidelines. Not to be rude, as I am sure you weren't trying to be rude either, but a simple "You must be new! Try posting this in this group and here is a link to tips to help you navigate our community (and hopefully find your book). Welcome!!" Would have been nice.

I will search harder for the tips page. Any guidance in how to navigate there?

My apologies. I'll be sure not to offer advice again.

#3: Booksloth was only referring to the tips page of that particular group, and you can find it by clicking on the name of the group in his post.

And no reason to get this upset - we are trying to help you find your book, and Name That Book is a group with a surprisingly high amount of people posting without reading the guidelines (that were designed to make the chance of finding your book as high as possible). Maybe you happen to be the kind of person who wouldn't dream of ignoring the guidelines, but we couldn't know that.

The 'tips' are specifically for the Name That Book group and are at the link posted in comment 2.

Hi DeeMiller-
Did you ever get an answer to your question?

I have no idea if this will help. Your mention of puns made me think of William Steig's C D B (lots of word and letter play). But this was written some time before.
