I am planning to read 30 again this year.

Here is my ticker:

It is kind of busy looking; I hope that it is readable.

Here are my 3 books so far:
1. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole. My daughter called this book somewhat ridiculous. Although she is right, I liked it. The first ever Gothic novel.

2. Praying for Our Adult Sons & Daughters: Placing Them in the Heart of God by John & Therese Boucher.

3. Rome Sweet Home: Our Journey to Catholicism by Scott & Kimberly Hahn.

Reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix -- talk about a really old book!

Welcome to the challenge! Your ticker can be read fine and you made a really good start! Have fun with Harry Potter, it's one of the best books of the series.

Thank you! I am glad to hear that you liked this Harry Potter book so much. I need to pick it back up tonight!

Haha, I liked The Castle of Otranto. When a giant helmet falls on someone's head in Chapter 1, what's not to like?

Yes, that is what I thought. :)

I picked up The Castle of Otranto in Joplin this year! Looking forward to reading it! (in fact, I might just go pull it off the shelf now!)

Hi, Bill and Terri!
Guess what? I bought the Castle of Otranto in Joplin a while back. I thought the intro/preface was a hoot and worth a read.

Next 3 books:
4. Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives by Pope Benedict XVI.
5. Theology for Beginners by Frank Sheed.
6. Mary, the Second Eve by John Henry Newman, compiled by Sister Eileen Breen, FMA.

It is pouring rain here in Tulsa, so I am putting off my errands until it stops.

First book for February:

7. The Magician's Nephew by C. S. Lewis. This book was great fun. I read The Chronicles of Narnia last year. This is technically the first in the series chronologically, but written later, so I read it second.

Two more books in February:
8. The Screwtape Letters also by C. S. Lewis. Interesting read, and I am becoming a C. S. Lewis fan.

9. Silent Night by Mary Higgins Clark. A short suspense novel that takes place during the Christmas season. I had intended to read it then, but never got to it.

And my first book for March:

10. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. I have been meaning to read this mystery novel about the dog forever. Don't want to give anything away, but this was a terrific read.

Hi BJ~
Remember the good old days with the three Bs? Good to catch up with you again.
You have made an excellent start with your ROOT challenge for the year. I am doing this one for the first time and I really like it. It is helping me to clear my shelves of a few books that I am not likely to reread.
I hope life in your little corner of the world is good. I think of you often and remember our little late night chats on L.T.
Now that I know where you are, I will be watching for your reads.
hugs,
belva

Hi, Belva!
How wonderful to hear from you! I am working now and find it harder to keep up with LT, but I do enjoy it so much. This is a good challenge for me since I need to cut back on new purchases and read what I have (and I have plenty to read!). I will look for your thread.

More books for March:

11. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling. This book took me quite a while to get into. Nice ending, but not my favorite HP.

12. Preparation for Total Consecration according to Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort by Montfort Publications. This prayer book includes reflections from Imitation of Christ, another book I have been meaning to read.

13. Theology and Sanity by Frank Sheed. Once again, some parts were easier than others for me.

So, not too many ROOT books for March -- 4 total.

What's your favourite HP? Mine would probably be the third one (and I like the movie of the third book best as well).

I think my favorite one so far is The Prisoner of Azkaban; although, I also really liked The Goblet of Fire. Is the third one The Prisoner of Azkaban? I think maybe it is.

Yup, Azkaban is the third one :)

Not too many books read in April, but all of them were off the shelf.

14. Lent and Easter Wisdom from Henri J. M. Nouwen compiled by Judy Bauer. This was outstanding and continued until Divine Mercy Sunday.

15. The Spirit of Catholicism by Karl Adam and Justin McCann. This book was a Legacy Reprint and included marks in the margin! Although written from German theology lectures at University (I can't recall how to spell the name of the school) in the late 1920s, this book was quite interesting and surprisingly easy to follow.

16. Catholic Matters: Confusion, Controversy, and the Splendor of Truth by Richard John Neuhaus. This book was written with Diary entries during the election of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, which is interesting timing to read it right after the election of his successor.

Here is to more books in May!!

I see that my ticker no longer works. Sorry that I have been away so long!
No books for May or June. Catching up here:
July
17.Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. What a great read!

August:
18. No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. I really loved this book as well.

19. Beautiful Girlhood Revised and updated by Karen Andreola. Just read this before it went out the door. I liked parts of it.

20.God's Little Instruction Book for the Class of 2009 by David Cook. Another one read on the way out the door.

21. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Campus Chronicles by Jack Canfield, et al. As you can see, my daughter is cleaning out her books and I am still reading them as they go out the door. :)

September:
22.Phantom Stallion: The Wild One by Terri Farley. Could not determine if a relative of Walter Farley.

23. The Swan Princess More of the same.

24. Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself by Judy Blum. She is always thought-provoking.

October:
25. Anne Frank: A Hidden Life by Marjam Pressler. More reading as books go out the door.

Well, I hope that I can get to 30. I stopped reading the books my daughter is getting rid of because too busy with other things.
