I know it isn't in the list but I have just finished it and it is the only King book that has given me bad dreams. From old posts it seems many readers saw Rachel as the important person in the story, with Jud a close second, but I was so annoyed with Lou that nobody else seemed to matter. I suppose there is a hidden 'god complex' in many doctors which helped him to behave as he did but I was inwardly screaming for him not to do what he was going to do. I know, it would have ruined the book.
I thought the grandfather character was brilliant and I do understand why Lou didn't want the cat neutered. My hubby felt the same about one of our dogs - but he kept digging under the gate and running away ( the dog, not hubby)so he gave in in the end.It changed the dog, but not into a creepy monster like Church.

PS was my second King after Different Seasons. I was 12 or so. It held up for me until I read it again recently. Too much tell when it came to Jud's experience of the sem, Rachel's inarticulate horror of death just didn't amount to much and the end was pure camp which ruined the high emotion of Gage's death. The Suck Fairy visited and I was so bummed.
