The previous thread is slow due to the amount of pictures, I think...

Hi fuzzi,

And a merry Christmas to you.
Well it's Christmas Day here in Aussi.

And as usual I want to "take them all" home.

Did like 'mom's' protectiveness and that last picture/cat does seem to have a strength. And
#1 of course. Only a baby. And...

Just wanted to mention 'threads' are automatticaly
given the option to split when they hit 300?
I guess with our "picture intensive one's" it might be usefull to split them more often. But, say, keep the same title with a number to differentiate them.

Guido.

ETA. which you have done. Duh...
Too busy looking at the kittens :-)

I like the mommy cat. I would take her home.

6guido47
Déc 24, 2012, 8:37 pm

Whilst showing some friends what LT is...

I thought I would reply to #110 on the previous (split) thread.

#109 LOL - we have some real oddball parties here in Oz. I usually vote for a party which advocates meditation for the masses and I believe that over east they had some sort of Sex Party but Guido would know more about that. I live out West where we are forgotten by the federal government (except when they want money) but we are quite often rich. :)

Well I lived in Canberra for some years, and after I left they got "self governance". Their first election lead to such electoral parties as:

1) The firm ripe tomatoe party
2) The party, party, party, Party.
3) The "no government for Canberra" Party - which I think won a seat.
4) And many others, which I can't remember.

In the next election the vote went strictly with the
2 major party lines :-) although Canberra is biased.

Guido.

PS. Might have some converts here.

guido47, a long time ago Monty Python did an election night skit, which I thought was pretty funny...sounds like Canberra!

Merry Christmas to you, and reconditereader. The cats and kittens are available for adoption, in eastern NC (North Carolina), USA. :) Come on down!

Hurray for the new thread to celebrate our babies (adult and kitten). Just want to mention, in case anyone is not familiar, the Animal Rescue Site - Click to feed. If I remember correctly, no sign-up is required.

No new babies at my house, but my daughter has given me two granddogs to spoil.

Is This it Betty30554? Although I do wonder how effective those sites are. Well, a few clicks are nothing.

>9 guido47: Guido, I guess its' bonafide. At least it doesn't hurt, doesn't put any kind of virus on your computer. I have done some occassional shopping from this site, which I guess helps cover their contributions. And they rep advertisers too. If I remember correctly (that is the big question), I think I found this site through ClarkHoward.com, a trusted financial-smartness guy (in the USA). And at least there is no sign-up, so you are not giving any personal info. But I will say that their fair-trade shopping connections are really neat.

I don't think they'd do well if I shipped them to you...

Awww I want all 3! I love their eyes! Booo for no shipping! lol. I would totally demand them if animals didn't have to go through absolute hell to move overseas. I'd never torture a poor little furball that way. At least I can remind myself there's no pets allowed in my building to take the edge off, though. ;)

Déc 26, 2012, 2:51 pm

Cole bites...at least he bit me. I was petting him, and he seemed to like it, then he changed his mind and boxed me with his (declawed) front paws. I think if I had taken his pugilistic attempts seriously he would not have then decided to bite me.

Skin wasn't broken, no blood, he was just po'd...

...if I were in a cage, newly declawed, and some lady was laughing at me, I might want to bite her too... ;)

17guido47
Modifié : Déc 26, 2012, 3:40 pm

Dear fuzzi,

I too would bite you... :-)

I looked it up, It is indeed illegal to 'declaw'
a cat, for other than medical reasons, here in Aussi !

Guido.

ETA. Sorry, I feel strongy about that. And I think 'tail' docking is also banned.
OK, some 'peoples' might think "Nanny state"
but I wonder what the 'Cats & Dogs' think?

18.Monkey.
Déc 26, 2012, 4:10 pm

I firmly agree with those practices being illegal/banned. They're terrible animal cruelty.

19anna_in_pdx

Why did the kitten get declawed, Fuzzi? Was there some medical reason?

20Seanie
Déc 26, 2012, 5:06 pm

Thanx for starting a new thread :)

I'm another who thinks de-clawing is cruel, I take it he came in to the shelter like that fuzzi? Do you know his story?

We have a biter at TCC too, her name's Lizzie, she's quite a big fluffy girl (looks a bit like a maine coon) too so can be quite intimidating! She's had a hard life so far, was cage bound when she came in as she'd been at a country pound in a small cage for 8 months (we still don't know how she lasted that long, most country pounds PTS after 8 days here!) & she grumbles & growls when you pat her, & yowls if you pick her up, but her swipes are always with claws retracted & her bites never pierce skin, so I've learned not to be scared of her & she seems to respect me more for it, lol. Just picking her up & putting her on my lap & patting her no matter how much she yells at me, has really helped her come out of her shell, she still nips & swipes sometimes, but will come to the front of the cage so see people now instead of hiding in the corner, so hopefully the right person (someone who understands cats pretty well) for her will come along soon now that she seems to be ready to show herself off a bit :) I've posted this pic before, but after telling her story, had to share it again, here's Lizzie:

Baxter or Burnie looks a lot like our Razor in that pic, dont you think:

Razor actually went to a home for a couple of days but was returned :( He's still very timid & we thought the guy that took him understood that, he said he was getting Razor as a companion to his current cat because he works long hours so didn't mind if he was shy, but after only a couple of days he decided it wasnt going to work & returned him :( I suppose its better that he returned him than just letting him out or something, but we're sad that he didn't try for longer than a few days...

I'll put together some recent pics to share soon :)

21anna_in_pdx
Déc 26, 2012, 5:10 pm

Gee, getting two unacquainted cats together can take a lot more than a few days. Too bad that person didn't know more about the fact that it would be a process.

How are T and T doing, Seanie? Any more weird aggression?

22Seanie
Déc 26, 2012, 5:43 pm

Tilly still has little spats at Taji every now & then & takes herself off to the bathroom to sleep rather than on the bed with us :( But all in all things are pretty close to normal again, thanx for asking :)

23fuzzi
Déc 26, 2012, 8:09 pm

The cat was declawed before we got him, I think.

The ladies who run the adoption service don't believe in declawing, either.

24fuzzi
Modifié : Déc 27, 2012, 5:39 pm

We had another cat we rescued, that had been declawed, but then developed a UTI. The owners told the vet to euthanize him...we could not understand why, after going through the expense of declawing your cat, to not want to pay for an antibiotic?

However, the vet called the rescue, and they had the cat treated and adopted!

Addendum: it's BooBoo I am referring to. You can see his picture in the gallery for the C,B,LIG group.

Not exactly innocent, but...

Déc 27, 2012, 1:49 pm

Sometimes, a bite is "get off that spot" for my cats. Especially true after they've had an argument and rolled down the stairs with a sibling or other household member.

Oh! Got a Christmas story of the feline kind:

My sister sent a large box full of presents, which when we unwrapped, we dropped the dead paper into. (No ribbons or bows, just paper.) Well, Tortie Blaze decided it was HER box. She hopped in under the falling paper. No problem so far.

Then Tux Alex decided to find out what the lump under the paper was...

Talk about an argument over who's box it was! Geez. But funny because Blaze is the smaller of the two, yet prevailed on pure female venom alone. Alex hopped out and trotted away to whimper over his wounded pride, while Blaze popped her head up long enough to challenge anyone else, then disappeared under the paper again.

Wish I had gotten pictures, but I feared the flying claws. :>

This is Max, Max has been with us since he was just a few weeks old & he was sooo small we didn’t think he’d make it – check out the before & after, lol! He’s struggled with flu a few times & is quite prone to ear-mites, so has been at a foster carer’s for a while, the foster carer recently moved home so Max had to come back to us at the adoption centre. We want him to be fully healthy before he goes to a permanent home so he’s still not available for adoption yet, but we’re hoping he will be soon!
January 2012:
October 2012:

This is Maddie, she’s been at TCC since before I started helping, she’s a very pretty girl but doesn’t like people (it took about 8 months before I could even pat her & that was only a quick pat while she was busy eating!) so its been very hard to find a home for her! She bunks with a few other cats in the big cage & gets along really well with them all, but she recently had a tummy bug so was taken out of the big cage so she could be monitored better & treated. Unfortunately we only had a very small cage in the quarantine area to separate her in, but it’s the strangest thing, while she was in the small cage, she became quite smooch with Kerri & I, she’d come to the front of the cage as soon as she saw or heard us & she’d let us pat her & I even managed to brush her for a few mins!!! We tried her in with one other cat after her tummy got better but she reverted to not wanting us near her, so as soon as a single cage becomes free (in the next couple of days) we’re going to try her in there & see how she goes…

This is Eddison, he has gone to a home now :) He was the shyest of his litter but oh so photogenic IMO!

This is Burger, he was one of the hoarder’s cats, he’s a bit of an oddball, but very sweet:

& this is Burger’s brother Jimmy:

This is Bumblebee, such a smooch & I just LOVE her white smile:

& Bumblebee’s sister Ladybug (who has gone to a home):

& this is Tulip, Tulip doesn’t like other cats & has a LOT to say (typical torti), but she’s happy to sit on my lap & be groomed (which she needs more than once a week or she matts) & despite her odd markings, we think she’s a very pretty girl:

36fuzzi
Déc 28, 2012, 12:02 pm

Seanie probably takes at least ten shots in order to get one good one...

37Seanie
Modifié : Déc 28, 2012, 7:10 pm

fuzzi's got it - I take anywhere between 50 & 200 pics per shoot & usually get around 1 in 10 good ones, lol :)

We set up a cage with 'curtains' for the background (used to use my old show curtains, but now we use material that Kerri's mum has sewn to fit the cage properly), with kittens in particular we try & get them when they're napping, as it doesn't take long for them to hype up - because we use feather teasers & toys to try & get them looking at the camera :)

Sometimes I have good days & sometimes I get over it very quickly when no-one will sit still or look at the camera, lol :)

P.S. I'm glad you like the pics, I like having somewhere like this to share them :)

38fuzzi
Déc 29, 2012, 12:08 am

I understand, because I take a lot of pictures, period! ;)

When I take pics at the shelter, it takes about ten shots to get one good, if that.

The tabby in post three was an exception. I think I took about six and got TWO good ones.

39fuzzi
Modifié : Déc 29, 2012, 12:14 am

Note to Seanie: in post (30) Burger and Jimmy look different in the face from the other cats...a different breed, perhaps?

40Seanie
Jan 4, 2013, 4:56 am

Burger & Jimmy do have a bit of a different look to them, not sure what breed could be in their background, but its possible there's something there...

More new pics to share :)

This is Tammy:

She's such a lil bundle of energy, twas sooo hard to get good pics, but the good ones are very good IMO coz she's oh so gorgeous & photogenic! Her litter-mates look nothing like her, but I still think there could be bengal somewhere in her background coz her coat is super soft & pelt like & she has glitter down her back (I tried so hard to get a pick of it but couldn't - doh!)...

This is Petra:

Petra is from the hoarder's too, she's mum to Pixie, possibly Burger & co, & delivered 4 kittens a couple of days after we got her - 2 of them are Bumblebee & Ladybug above :) She's quite a solid girl, doesnt look that big but I was surprised at her weight when I picked her up! She's just lovely tho :)

This is Firefly:

Firefly has been bunking with Tammy & has become just as hyperactive, lol, she wouldnt sit still in the cage for pics so we had to resort to someone holding her - & even that took a lot of shots to get this one!

This is Charlotte:

She's a stray that came in to us with her 3 kittens last week, she's super friendly for a stray! & I want to do another photo shoot with her if I get a chance coz she's pretty photogenic IMO, I just couldn't get her to sit in a pretty pose, lol :)

These are Charlotte's kittens, Christy:

Chipmunk:

& Chantal:

The Kittens are still pretty timid, but if mum's anything to go by it wont take long for them to come out of their shells :)

& this is Walter:

Walter is a lovely boy, but we're not sure what has happened to his ears :( He seems too young for it to be sunburn (he's only 9 months or so) but there is almost no fur on the backs of them, they are all raw & the edges curled in like they're burnt, perhaps chemical burns or something? We think he's too friendly to have been tortured but his sister (who I haven't met as she's with a carer) has the same thing with her ears except worse, so we're really not sure... But they're getting much better in our care & he is super friendly, so I don't think we'll have much trouble finding him a home once he's ready :)

Tammy! I want Tammy! soooo pretty! The others are lovely too. I wonder if poor Walter and his sister got under or into a car engine? My neighbour's cat got a bad burn on his back from a car that was running hot - I think he got into part of the engine. Walter has such a nice face, though. Really want to cuddle him. Hope he finds a lovely home.

Jan 4, 2013, 1:15 pm

I sooooo want Tammy and Chantal!

I just wanted to mention that our vet told us once that cats are spontaneous ovulators. This means that each time a male "does the naughty," the female ovulates and perhaps conceives. Thus, a female can carry kittens from several different males at the same time, so that is why you often see siblings that look nothing like each other. They likely have different fathers.

Some new pics to share :)
This is Snickers & Crunchie, we’re gonna use this pic on Facebook to ask people to donate kitten food, lol:

We were told they were 3 weeks old & ‘found’ but tho they’re small enough to be 3 weeks, they are much too alert to be that young so we’re thinking they’re older but small – & they’re too friendly to be strays too, so we think that someone prob let their cat have kittens & didn’t know what to do so dumped them after a few weeks of cute fun :(

This is Audrey, you can’t see it very well, but she has a love heart marking on her side:

This is Audrey’s son Spencer (temporary name until/unless Kerri comes up with one she likes more):

& this is Errol (also a temporary name until/unless Kerri comes up with one she likes more) – he came in with Audrey & Spencer but we don’t think they’re actually related:

This is Taz:

This is Joshephine:

Josephine is a bit quiet, but such a pretty girl I’m sure ‘her people’ will come along soon :)

This is Cory:

Cory’s a lovely smooch boy, I don’t expect he’ll take long to find a home :)

This is Boots:

Boots is quite possibly the biggest cat I’ve ever met – but not an ounce of fat on him, it’s a workout just to pick him up, lol! & funnily enough, for a BIG boy, he is such a wuss! He has such a high pitched squeak of a miaow & runs scared when the door opens & he wouldn’t sit still for the camera coz he wanted smooches, lol…
A couple more pics of boots to show how big & impressive he is:

That’s “Nanna” (Kerri’s mum) holding him – she didn’t want to be in the pic, but it was the only way to show how big he is :)

Oh wow, he is big! Funny, both of my really big cats were a bit of fraidycats too. One of them was just incredibly shy and would hide himself away when any non-family was around, and the other was afraid of everything, loud sounds, sudden movements, anything unfamiliar, hahaha. He was the biggest lover ever though, all he wanted was for everyone to just pet him and let him snuggle with them indefinitely. :P

Jan 15, 2013, 7:43 pm

Well I weighed Boots last night & he came in @ just over 8kg (that’s about 17lbs according to an online calculator), so not quite as big as I thought – I was thinking he’s almost as big as the biggest show Coonie I know who comes in at 13kg, I was obviously over-estimating, lol :) But Boots is twice the size of my Tilly so still a very big boy & quite impressive :) I was going to try & measure him nose to tail next time I’m in @ TCC, but just spoke to Kerri & he went to a home today :)

Thanx for finding the Facebook page Guido :) Is your friend the one that has asked about Henny & said they’ll come meet her next week? & yep FB is kept much more up to date than the old website at the moment, a few volunteers have access to update it whereas the website can only be updated from one computer - & the internet is unreliable on that computer, so we try & direct people to FB more than the website for now. The volunteer that’s gonna build the new website for us has recently been back in contact after an extremely busy end of last year for him, he was too busy to do much after the first few meetings we had with him, but he has said things will be much calmer this year for him so plans on getting back onto the new TCC website soon :) He has talked about linking the new website with FB (& Petrescue) in a way that we will only have to post new pics to one place & they will automatically go where we want them to go so that will help us keep both the website & FB up to date without extra work :)

Not sure Geelong FC would be interested in adopting Boots as a Mascot (if he was still available), I think if they were gonna get a rescue cat they’d prob get it from GAWS & that’d be appropriate, but good idea, it could be worth finding a local sports club who wants a mascot, I wonder if any of the local sports teams are ‘cats’ like Geelong, I might look into that after we move :)

Not sure if I’ve mentioned it here, but we’re moving soon, lease ends on the current place in a month & we need somewhere bigger, so have put an application in for a factory with showroom that’s about 7 or 8 mins drive from where we are now... Looking forward to having more space to be better organised in & to improve the temporary accommodations for the cats of course :)

Well its been a while, so I thought I'd share a few pics I took on tuesday night :)

These guys still need names:

These 5 are from the hoarder...

These 2 are poundies:
Currently called "Lex's friend":

Currently called "Gerri's friend":

Any name suggestions for the guys above would be appreciated :)

This is Lex:

Lex thinks he's feral, its quite funny seeing a lil kitten trying to be fierce, but he'll come around soon with lots of love & affection :) I'm making sure I cuddle him every time I go in - whether he likes it or not, lol...

& This is Gerri:

Its a terrible pic I know, but she just wanted to be in my arms instead of getting her picture taken, this is the best of 26pics I took of her!!!

This is Casper:

He's soooooo gorgeous! He's a way off finding a home yet, because he came to us as an entire adult we need to get him FIV tested & desexed, but he's got cat flu so needs to recover from that before we can get his 'work' done...

This is Ford:

Ford's a lovely boy, he seemed pretty sociable so Kerri put him in the big cage & he fit himself right in :)

This is Ginny:

Ginny was returned to us after over a year in a home :( She'd been bought by a woman, who then split up with her partner & left the cat with him, then the partner decided he wanted a dog & not the cat anymore :( At least she came back to us rather than being dumped somewhere, but I really just don't understand how people see animals as disposable like that :(

This is Lotus:

She really is such a pretty & petite lil thing! You may recognise the ears - this is Walter's sister. We put her in with Walter (& 2 other boys) when she came to us & she went FERAL! I've never heard such a little cat make so much noise! So we put her by herself & she wasn't happy, so now she's rooming with Lizzy & Tulip in the bathroom - & is as happy as! Funny girl just doesn't like boys, lol...

This is Puss Puss:

Puss Puss is 8. She was pretty much a foster failure, but we have an older woman looking for an older cat, so the foster mum brought her in just in case she fits with the older woman, we'll find out next week & if they don't hit it off then Puss Puss will go back to her foster home :)

This is Sampson:

Sampson is very sweet - & how cool is is one white whisker :)

This is Mumma Mow-wow (she was being called "wow wow" when she came to us & we haven't come up with anything much better yet)

She is one of the hoarder's cats, poor girl is so very pregnant, but doesn't seem to realise it! We were expecting her to give birth about a week ago, but she still hasn't! If she doesn't 'pop' today, then we'll be taking her to the vet...

Side note - the hoarder only has 3 cats left now & only one of them is entire! Just gotta catch that one more & then hopefully this woman never gets any more (or at least desexes them if she does)

ETA - I had a name wrong, its Lex & Lex's friend, not Sid & Sid's friend, oops!

Also add - lil black kitten is now called Salem :) I dont know the gender's of all the others, trying to get that info to post, it does help with naming, lol...

Fév 20, 2013, 9:14 pm

Sid's Friend looks so much like my son's kitty, Leo, who passed away a little over a year ago from a congenital heart defect. He was a real character! He loved to chew on my son's socks...can't tell you how many he ruined, along with the girlfriend's cashmere sweater!

I am terrible at naming, but had to mention that the pic of Gerri is not terrible. She looks exactly as you describe--desperately wanting you to put down the flashy-box and hold her. Also, have to say that although Sampson's one white whisker is amazing, I keep expecting him to tilt over from the apparent weight, lol.

These cats are so fortunate! We had a horrific story on the news yesterday about three 'men' who beat, strangled (killed) and abandoned a puppy. They have been caught, and trust me, there are a lot of people who'd like to do to them what they did to that poor puppy. At least he is out his misery now. :(

And poor no 2 looks so scared and a lot like my own cat - so I'll suggest Mia if it's a girl.

For those of you that havent seen my post in the GD, Charlotte & 2 of her kittens have passed away :( The 2 girl kittens went fairly quickly not long after I posted the pics & Charlotte went into cardiac arrest when she was getting desexed last week & didn't make it :( So sad, she was such a gorgeous girl & seemed to be in such good condition for a mumma cat, but she was meant for better things than this world :( Lil Chipmunk is the only one of the family still alive, he seems to be thriving but we're so nervous about him now :(

Haven't done another photo shoot, but took a few new pics with my point & shoot camera on the weekend...

This is Stirling:

He’s Silver’s brother (which is why we’re calling him Stirling – tho Kerri hates the name, lol) & is one of the prettiest cats ever IMO! He’s still a bit shy, but if he’s anything like his sister (& I think he will be) then he’ll be a suuuper smooch once he settles… He's from the hoarder & had never been inside before he came to us, so wouldn't let us near him when he came in a couple of weeks ago, but was headbutting me after I took this pic so I do think he'll come around soon...

This lil guy doesn’t have a name yet:

I’m pretty sure it’s a boy, dunno why tho so I could be wrong… He’s young too, I’d say 4months or less coz mum still lets him feed sometimes. I LOVE his markings & think he may end up pretty big…

This is mum of kitten above, also doesn’t have a name yet:

She’s very sweet, hard to get pics of coz she wanted to smooch me, but not intense like Gerri, lol :) I'm looking forward to doing a proper shoot with her, those eyes will make for some pretty pics IMO!

& This boy doesn’t have a name yet either:

I haven’t had much to do with him yet but from what I can tell he’s very sweet, I think about 1-2 years old…

& this is Freddie:

Freddie's a complete sweetheart - unless you're a cat, then he's a monster! He just loves people, but HATES other cats!

reconitreader - those eyes with the makeup look & that dark nose, yep I hope to get some really pretty pics of her!

I have just noticed how many of the cats are "gray with white bib"
Just like Max (although he is approx. 6)

Is this the new flavour of the moment?

In my day most strays (and my 'ol Puss) were Tabbies, with the ocassional Ginger.
I guess the 'posh people' had "breeds" but I don't ever remember seeing any.

ETA. Do you think breeders are breeding for that look?

90Seanie
Fév 24, 2013, 11:17 pm

I don't think its got anything to do with breeders, well not the registered ethical ones anyway...

We do seem to have 'flavours of the month' tho, sometimes we'll get a bunch of gingers in, sometimes tabbies, at the moment it does seem to be grey & whites. I'm really not sure why, interesting!

My first official rescue!

Meet "Sweetums"

My son works at a movie theater and was in the 'box' selling tickets all day. He and others noticed a small, skinny but friendly cat hanging around the outside of the theater, despite Friday crowds. When he got home, he asked if we could adopt another outside stray, and I said yes.

We drove back to the theater, but didn't see the cat at first. I spotted her at a distance, and another worker called "here kitty, kitty, kitty!"... and she came! She buzzed when I picked her up, and started "making biscuits" (kneading her front paws). When we got back to the car, she was fine until my son brought over a cat carrier, at which point she tensed up and began to struggle just a bit.

We put her in the backseat sans carrier, and she rode home on the back window shelf (first picture).

She is so sweet and loving, I want to see her adopted into a loving family, so I have her in our shed with a litter box, food and water. I even made her a bed with an old towel.

She'll go get tested for FIV, and be spayed on Thursday if all goes according to plan.

I'd love to keep her, but my other cats bit the last cat I tried to introduce, so I'd better not.

Anna (#97),
I think you are thinking of 'tardis', who has Amy & Rory. I have known about them since tardis first put up their kitten pictures, and I fell totally in love with the "perplexed" Rory. In another thread, there is a picture of Rory with 'bug catcher tape' and a FAT Amy :-)

ETA. Very pretty and unusual girl there Fuzzi.

Oh dear. Sorry Fuzzi! I should have remembered. Wow. Five cats and a dog, that is dedication. I have three cats and my dearest SO has vetoed my enthusiastic pleas for a dog for now (but I will persevere)...

101fuzzi
Modifié : Mar 3, 2013, 7:40 am

anna_in_pdx, no problem. It's hard to keep track of all the players without a scorecard!

I was contemplating this morning that I have a mini-farm, of sorts. When I get up in the morning I first have two caterwauling beasts to feed (indoor cats) and then I turn on the aquarium light to feed the fish. Then I take a cup of cat food and my dog outside: while she sits and waits at the top of the steps, I feed my cat pack (currently three strays), then walk the dog. After coming back inside, I feed my dog, Tirzah, as well as cleaning and refilling the communal water dish.

This morning I also had my latest kitty to feed (she's in the shed, for protection), and I also have to fill the feeders for the wild birds!

And I still want bantam chickens, and maybe a goat (doe)!!!

It's kind of like having children again. :)

Mar 3, 2013, 5:54 pm

When I was a little boy (I'm 64 now) we had one looked just like Sweetums. We called her Annie. She lived in our barn with the other 38 barn cats. She was a good mother. She was an all-around sweetheart of a girl and I think you should keep her. Get rid of one of the ferals and keep her. She'll be a good kitty for you.

104fuzzi
Mar 3, 2013, 8:11 pm

dekesolomon, I'd love to keep her, but she'd need to be an inside cat...and my other two indoor cats don't like newcomers. I learned that the hard way in the past.

Outside it isn't just the ferals she'd have to face, but she'd also have to deal with raccoons, possums, foxes, stray dogs etc. I've lost too many outside cats here to release a sweet cat like her.

She will be someone else's sweetie. I'm just glad to have known her for a couple days. :)

The two of you would end up world famous and you could sell her to a VERY good home for tons of money. . . .

I took 160pics on Sunday - & uploaded over 40 of them! Thats an impressive hit rate for me :)

I wont bombard you with them all, but I do have a lot to share, hope you all don't mind!

This is Corzette:

Isn’t she stunning! & a super affectionate lil girl too, someone will be a very lucky cat slave to take her home IMO :)

& This is Portia:

The only way we can tell her & Corzette apart is by comparing ear tufts next to each other, Portia's are slightly whiter… They have the same gorgeous lovey purrsonalities too :)

These 2 tabby girls are sisters to Corzette & Portia & are in need of names:

We had 2 ragdoll boys surrendered on Sunday, I don’t know the full story but they are lovely boys & should have no trouble finding homes. This is Oscar:

This is Coco:

This is Bo:

He didn’t have a name in the last pic I posted of him, now he is Bo :)

This is Lori:

Lori didn’t have a name last time I posted a pic of her either, we relaly liked the suggestion Maybelline coz of her eye make-up, but you cant really shorten Maybelline except to Maybel & she’s too pretty to be a Maybel, so we went with Lori – short for Loreal - She’s a super smooch :)

This is Lori’s lil boy, now called Savoy:

Savoy’s still a bit shy, but I think he’ll come around pretty soon, especially with a mum who’s as smooch as Lori :)

This is Em:

Em’s a lovely girl who looked after a few kittens for us that came in with no mum – only one has survived & he is thriving now, but he was driving poor Em insane with his hyperactivity after a few weeks so she’s bunking with one of our shop cats for now :)

This is Ewok:

Ewok is one of the prettiest kitties I’ve ever soon, the pic just doesn’t do her justice! She would NOT sit still in the cage I was taking pics in , so I just had to try & get snaps of her up on a bench she was happy to explore, lol… Her coat is smoke torti which I’ve never seen before! She’s certainly got tortitude down pat, much more attitude than you’d expect from such a pretty little thing!

& last but most certainly not least, I have to share a series of pics of Bunny :) Bunny came in on Saturday – zipped into the hoarder’s leather handbag! & had been zipped in there for the 45min drive! We weren’t expecting any more cats at the moment & definitely weren’t expecting a poor lil thing to be transported like that! She was a lil de-hydrated & scared, but after some water & lots of cuddles, was super active, inquisitive & friendly by Sunday! So we put her in the photo cage with her hippo friend - & she was being oh so cute that we decided to put one of the Malteaster Bunnies that we’re selling for fundraising in with her too & take some pics to promote our fundraiser. She’s a real lil model so sorry for the photo overload!

This hoarder who is providing you with all these cats sounds like a menace to society.

109Seanie
Mar 4, 2013, 7:53 pm

The hoarder has one adult entire left that she says she cant catch - hopefully the problem will be over once we finally get that one! But then again, she didn't tell us about this kitten, just brought it in, so there could still be more cats with her than we know...

& yep, she is a menace :(

110fuzzi
Modifié : Mar 4, 2013, 8:39 pm

Where did you get all these cats? Not just the hoarder...?

When I saw the first photo of Corzette, I literally gasped...what an unusual coloring! Very striking.

Addendum: what problems could one have with a Ragdoll?

111Seanie
Mar 4, 2013, 9:36 pm

Most of our cats come from country pounds where they are only kept for 8 days before being PTS, so we have a few carers who will do pick ups of kitties that are 'on death row' & bring them to us when they are ready for re-homing...

I think Corzette & Portia are absolute stunners! I'm a big fan of smoke coloured cats & these 2 are just sooo pretty!

I think the person that surrendered the raggies was moving house or something & couldn't take them - & apparently one of them was toileting outside the litter box sometimes, Kerri thinks that he may be unhappy being dominated by the other & thinks they'll settle well if they go to separate homes where they are the only cats...

We've had another drop off last weekend, so have some newbies to get pics of & a few more that will need names (thankfully most of the last lot came with names already)...

We have 2 litters of black & black & white babies that all need names, one of the litters mum's name is Victoria, so we were thinking states or royalty as a theme for their names & the other guys look vaguely oriental to me, so I'm thinking oriental sounding names for them... Pics hopefully to come in the next week...

I didn't get pics of Victoria's babies yet & Kerri decided on "K" names for the oriental looking kittens, but these guys need names:

Currently bunking with Dixie so temporarily called "Dixie's friend", she was found under someone's house & is still a bit timid, but starting to come around so we think she'll be quite smoochy soon :)

This girl certainly has Tortitude, lol, she's happy to have pats but has claimed her spot on the cat tree in the big cage & is happy to swat at anyone who dares to invade her territory :) She has a lovely thick coat & is prettier than this pic shows...

Currently bunking with Cally so temporarily called "Cally's Friend", I dont know much about her yet but she seems very sweet.

& some new pics to share :)

This is Cally:

I couldnt get photos of her except through the bars coz she just wanted to smooch the camera, lol. She's got gorgeous colouring, kinda strange coz she's a bit paler than usual torti but too dark to be pale torti :)

This is Hans:

He's crazy affectionate with people & cats, to the point that the cats he bunks with do get annoyed at times, but he doesnt get offended when they put him back in his place, lol. He's gonna make someone an awesome lovebug pet :)

This is Peter:

He's almost as affectionate as Hans, but we think he may have been taken away from his mum a bit young coz he forgets his manners & gets too enthusiastic in his play sometimes (see Hans' scratched eyelid)

This is Mark:

& Mark's brother Jez:

Both sweet boys who love to rough & tumble with Hans & Peter :)

This is Crunchie - she's Corzetts & Co's mum:

These are the "K" Kittens (the ones I think look a bit oriental)
The runt - Killer (lol)

The only girl, Kirsten:

The biggest boy, Kade:

The black & white boy, Kyle:

The last boy, Kobo:

Rotten news...my sweet kitty rescue (see post 96) has not yet been adopted, and they are not promoting her adoption.

Why? She bites!

Apparently her "love bites" are too hard: she has broken the skin and drawn blood with four of the volunteers!

I spent some time with her today, petting and cuddling, but she tried to bite me as well. Every time she tried, I said sternly "NO!" and tapped her on the nose. She did get me once, I have the marks to prove it.

Before I left, I opened the cage and cuddled her again, and she didn't try to bite me, so I left on a positive note.

A few more pics from this wknd @ The Cat Corner :)

Kerri's decided to go with "V" names for Victoria's babies & the 2 black & whites are now Vicky & Vincent, the 3 tux girls still need names tho:
V1

This one has a lil white line above her top lip

V2:

This one has a lil white line like a goatee on the left side

V3:

This one has a lil white line on the right side of her chin

This is Vicky:

This is Vincent:

This is the oh so beautiful Brut:

Pic seriously doesn't do him justice he is so pretty! & very smoochy - & surprisingly clever, when he got sick of posing for me (very quickly) he swiped at the camera, lol...

This is Rick:

This handsome boy came in as a stray & has been in with a couple of feral kittens because he was VERY timid, but he's really come out of his shell recently so yesterday he moved in with Cally & her friend - & is now ready for adoption :)

I think she looks like the last woman in "No Country for Old Men," Lewellen's widow, the gal who refuses to play the coin-toss game. She's ready for whatever comes next.

161fuzzi
Mar 26, 2013, 12:31 pm

And as sweet as Popurry is, she's been in the shelter for months...with no takers!

Sundance was adopted, but returned. Apparently he and his new family got along well until one of the children came home from college. He didn't like her, so it seems, as he used her for a litter box...

...personally, if I had a cat do that, I would RETRAIN it, not get rid of it! A cat who defecates upon someone (maybe she was asleep?) is trying to communicate, even if inappropriately.

There are no perfect pets, as there are no perfect 'owners'.

162lturpin42
Mar 26, 2013, 10:28 pm

161> No kidding! The cat pooped on the new person once, so they take it back? That makes no sense. Did they not try ANYTHING else before resorting to that?!

My cats have always been family members -- junior family members, but family nonetheless. My current cat recently took to peeing in the diaper pail. To me, his messages were very simple: 1. The litterbox needs cleaning; 2. This pail smells like pee.

I also have a friend whose (neutered) cat would spray around their house. One day, he caught the cat in the act, so he scooped up the cat, dropped it in the bathtub, and peed on the cat. Never had a problem with spraying again. The cat was just trying to say "I'm the dominant one around here!" My friend simply said, in the cat's language, "No you're not."

163guido47
Modifié : Mar 27, 2013, 1:50 am

I feel that that denigration (peeing on a cat) was unnecessary. A stern NO is usually sufficient. Whether 'dominance behaviour or not'.

Cats are smarter than the average... (insert species of choice here)

ETA. I totally agree with you #162. What were the "adoptors' expecting?

Pollyanna Cat?

164fuzzi
Mar 27, 2013, 5:57 pm

That seems to be the attitude of so many people...there's a problem, so get rid of the cat (dog).

They'd probably get rid of their problem children, too, if it were legal. :(

165lturpin42
Mar 30, 2013, 11:16 pm

163> From what I understand, the spraying problem was very bad, and the cat was very discipline-resistant in the matter. Yelling, clapping, stomping, squirting with water, none of these worked. It wasn't confined to any specific spots or parts of the house. The vet couldn't find any health problems. I know all this because I was so shocked when I first heard the story that I asked about all these things.

I probably also should have mentioned in my previous post that I'm not advocating this specific technique, even if my friend would.

When I first got married 40 years ago, my new father-in-law gave us a female kitten. We took it home (of course) and took it back to daddy a week later because it crapped all over the house. At first I made allowances for it because she was a barn kitten, 12 weeks old. When she crapped in our bed, I quit making allowances. I didn't abuse her; I just took her home to her family barn. Presumably we were all happier then. I know that my wife and I were.

To lighten the mood, I thought I would tell you this tale.

"Yes Johnnie, It is about Krapping, no Natashia, it has a happy ending"

A short while after a Bikey left me with a pregnant cat, I moved into a flat by myself, with the 'poor cat' indoors by herself all day, yes Natashia, the kittens had been born and adopted by then.

Once on returning home and finding the "litter box" full I noticed 'she' had crapped in the shower recess. Good Cat.

I eventually had to foster/give her to a friend but not before "SHE" left me a final present.

I'm not quite sure what I had done, but a few days after 'fostering her' I noticed a smell in the lounge and after much searching (hey, I'm male and only vacuum when told to!) I found a 'goodly pile of Cat Poo" behind a (not obvious) curtain.

Now I know that was on purpose. I'd just like to know why?

Well, I discovered a good thing and a bad thing about a sweat wicking shirt this morning, regarding cat life...

If the cat wants to piddle in the laundry basket, the shirt will absorb all the issues.

Kept the rest of the laundry clean.
Slowed my morning run. :)

Our back door does not close properly so if it is not locked our cat Belle can open it with her paw. When she does that both she and Buzz get out, and because of the spring on the screen door they can't get back in. She always hangs out nearby and comes right back in when I open it, but Buzz roams and does not come when called. Today I had to put out his food and call him multiple times before he finally streaked back in. But the funny thing is that Buzz, who we adopted as a 2 month old kitten, is very well box-trained and does not understand that outside you can just go anywhere, so he holds it and is very uncomfortable and desperate for his box when he comes back in. He rushes right over to it every time.

Good news! Sundance got adopted again...hope his new family and he have no litter box issues.

And good news #2: my kitty (Sweetums/Honey) got adopted too, by a lady I know who is not worried about the biting issues! She has renamed her Gretta. I like that name.

Now, the latest sad tale at the Cat House:

This is Layla, found abandoned, very dirty and with wounded ears, as if they were burned (sound familiar?).

She is a little shy, but once she sniffs your fingers, and you start to scratch her neck, she almost falls over in bliss.

They estimate her to be about 10 years old. I think she'd fit in here, if I could get my dh to agree on one more cat...

(171) Layla has cancer...

From the shelter's Facebook page:

Layla needs your prayers and donations. Today the vet determined that she does indeed have squamous cell carcinoma on her ears. She is undergoing a procedure right now to have the worst ear cauterized to stop the excessive bleeding. She is anemic, and too thin and weak to undergo the extensive surgery that would be needed to remove the cancerous ears at this time. She is an elderly cat, found as a stray, and very sweet natured. We want to do our best for her. If she can get well and strong, we will eventually be able to put her through the surgery for the cancer. Just not yet.

We had a call from someone a few weeks ago who had found a stray mumma cat with 4 kittens under her house, they tried many other avenues to try & find them homes but haven't been able to (except for one of the kittens) so we've taken them on.

This is mumma, called Sweat Pea:

Honey Bee (back) & Butternut (front)

& Molly:

We’d like a 2word name rather than Molly so that they all have a theme, but we couldn’t think of anything except Cutie Pie which isn’t right, so she’s still Molly - & she has a home to go to once she’s had all her vet work done :)

We had a delivery from a country pound yesterday so have a few more newies to introduce :)
This gorgeous girl is Fern:

There’s something a bit special about this girl, but she’s very small for her age & not very healthy, so we’re hoping to find a foster carer who can give her some TLC…

This is Stumpy:

Stumpy has a break in his tail just below where it ends, so we think its been chopped off somehow rather than being a naturally occurring thing :(

This is Guinn

This is Baby Chicken:

This is Roma:

This is Mouse:

Mouse has super cute grey smokey tufts behind his ears! I’ve never seen markings like it before, will have to get a pic to show them!

This is Paul:

I’d called this big guy Doc, coz he’s a lot like someone we had a lil while ago named Boots, so I wanted a name that made me think of Boots & got Doc from Doc Martens, but we already have a Doc (who I haven’t met) so I’m not allowed to call him that, lol, & I don’t think Marten really suits him? So any suggestions for names would be good - He’s a big gentle giant cat :)

These 2 blue tabby boys need names too:

How about Stetson for the big guy? conjures images of leather boots for me. :)

187Seanie
Avr 29, 2013, 7:29 pm

Russian Blue ??? Baby Chicken is black & his ears are no where near big or straight enough to be a Russian, lol :)

As for his name, the carer who picks up the cats from this particular pound (& often keeps them for a few weeks to assess health & temperament) has kids that come up with some strange names, I think this one has something to do with the kitten putting on a performance whenever she cooked chicken for the family, lol...

Stetson - I like that better than Marten! I'll pass on the suggestion to Kerri :)

I was wondering about Layla too Fuzzi - any updates?

Once when in Australia, he was picked up at the airport and driven about 100 miles, during which he drank 24 cans of beer, with no visible effect :-)

Good idea #191, some general chit chat should soon see us to that 200 number.

Just an observation. So many of the rescued cats have a 'tentative/apprehensive'
look on their faces. I guess I can understand that. My MAX took quite a while before he really trusted me. From having a cat who would jump from my lap at the slightest movement, I now have a 'Lap Hog' :-} Though even now after almost 4 years he will still startle, get that 'where am I look on his face' and bound off my
lap.

I suppose any trauma can leave a 'life time impression' :-{

HIH Lizzy is still Not amused.

Guido.

Avr 30, 2013, 10:03 am

>193 guido47: My only one that's still left, with my mom, has had a massive phobia of the sound of plastic bags rustling the entire time we've had her (she was found on the side of the road as ~3mo old kitten by an old friend's mother's coworker (lol)), which leads us to believe either someone put her in one or she encountered one in her wandering and got caught. All you have to do is empty out some groceries and she's off like a flash! But that's the only thing that freaks her out. Well that and strangers lol, she hides. One of the others was a huge fraidy cat who startled at any sudden noise/movement, but I think it was more his personality, given this is a cat who stuck his nose in a dwarf hamster cage, and shot like a rocket out of the room & down the stairs when he got a reply! lmao. None of the rest were ever concerned by much.

195Helcura
Mai 9, 2013, 7:57 am

One of my rescue cats was terrified of every sound or movement for more than a year. Now, roughly five years later he will, tentatively, sit on my lap and will often cuddle next to me. He demands to be petted by quacking (yes the sound really is like quacking) and has no hesitation in interrupting me in order to get attention.

There is a lot of hope for each traumatized kitty and I agree that patience and kindness can work miracles.
