I haven't read it, but if the scope is large I'd have thought it might work well as a cable series, like "Game of Thrones".

I agree with amy. I think the story is too big and too complicated for the big screen. It would be better served as a cable series like Game of Thrones.

Howard's plan was to make several films with a couple of TV series thrown in-between to flesh out the rest of the story-line.

I don't know...as much as I would like to see a flesh and blood Roland I think that King's real strength is in his telling of the story and that is somehow diminished when brought to the screen. Isn't Roland's world infinitely more terrifying and fascinating in our imagination that it could ever be on screen?
