I have just received an email from my daughter trying to search out a book of short stories. I'll post her email in the hope that someone here knows the book she is after.
"I am scratching my head trying to remember who wrote a selection of very funny short stories- very british and old.
There is a particularly funny one about two old ladies who run an english
language newspaper somewhere in the "Empire" with the help of local workers and the "c" of the typesetting goes missing- this causes a scandal when they run an article about the Suez Canal. It is only after the paper is
distributed that the old ladies realise that the C has gone missing. The
workers can't read english so simply left out all the Cs
.
Thinking PG Wodehouse or Saki but can't find. I have a feeling that you gave
me the book or suggested it as very funny- which it was."
