The votes are in and it looks like we have enough interest to have a ReadaThing in July!
This and the next three posts will allow you to vote on specific dates. These are week-long ReadaThings, but remember you don't need to read the entire time! Most are Thursday-Wednesday, except for the possibility of an RaT around July 4th (Holiday in US falling on Wednesday this year).

Vote : I would participate in a ReadaThing Tuesday July 3 - Monday July 9, 2012

Thanks everyone!!

Update on June 21, 2012: Whoops! This should have been Thursday July 26 - Wednesday August 1, 2012 . . . but I didn't realize the error until voting was pretty much over . . . just noting it here to deal with any future confusion. Sorry about that!

Comments and thoughts about possible themes also welcome here!

Juin 12, 2012, 8:34am

As I already have suggested one possible theme could be

Vacation mysteries

There is a page on the 'Crime, Thriller and Mystery' Group, which is providing a lot of authors and books to this theme.

Vacation mysteries

Here's a couple themes I'd be very interested in:

Translated Authors -- authors whose work was not originally written in your language(s)

New Genres -- works in genres that are out of your normal comfort zone

Christmas in July -- books set or related to winter

> 6 & 7

Good ideas! I'm due for some mystery reading . . . though most of mine are culinaries, there might be some that have vacation-relatedness as well.

And I know I have some translated works on my TBR list!

Living in Minnesota, Christmas in July isn't always so far off (we went from 90s to 50s in a few hours on Sunday) . . . but Snow by Orhan Pamuk is on my TBR list, so I could manage that theme (even if I don't want to think about winter right now) :)

Juin 19, 2012, 1:16pm

Okay, trying to give this a bump to get a few more votes before we settle on a week . . . I'm a bit concerned that 16 people isn't enough to cover 168 hours of reading . . . or do you think we'll get enough once we pick a week and publicize?

Juin 19, 2012, 11:08pm

That's happened before. We even get people coming in late in the reading period. So - I hope so?

Juin 20, 2012, 2:01am

I'm pretty sure, when the date is settled, there will be a lot more readers to join in.

Juin 20, 2012, 5:50pm

So should we try for that week around July 4th?
or give ourselves more time and go for the second or last weeks?
(only the 19-27th seems problematic; but I'm one of the people who will be gone for part of that time :)

Juin 20, 2012, 6:24pm

gosh, the voting is so close, no clear cut winner. I'm okay with any of the dates really, but we do need to decide soon.

Juin 20, 2012, 7:14pm

>12 LucindaLibri: - Later would be better at this point, so that there's more time to announce it. The last week in July/first week in August would allow it to be in the next SOTT (this month's is going out tonight, so it won't be able to get in there).

Juin 20, 2012, 8:13pm

good idea.

Juin 20, 2012, 10:35pm

>13 majkia:-15 I'm persuaded to put it off until the Thursday July 26-Wed August 1 week (though I just realized I typed the dates wrong in the vote and no one corrected me :)
I'm guessing there may be other readathons and challenges folks could join around the 4th holiday . . .

And I'll be ready for either "Vacation Mysteries" or "Christmas in July" if we decide we want a theme . . .

Juin 21, 2012, 7:09am

Sounds good to me, Lucinda.

Juin 21, 2012, 9:41am

There should be enough time for the announcement, so that we can catch up with as much as possible of readers.
I'll definitely go for the last July week.

If we take a theme than "Translated Authors" or "Vacation Mysteries" would be fine with me.

Juin 21, 2012, 10:07am

Yeah, in view of what Jeremy said in #14 I vote for the later date too.

Juin 21, 2012, 5:57pm

Lucinda, I just found the thread and was about to post that I thought the dates were wrong, but I had to check the calendar first! :)

I'm in for whatever dates -- late July/early August is good.

I'm happy with "Vacation Mysteries", "New Genres" or "Christmas in July" for themes. I'm sure I could find something to fit pretty much any other theme, too!
