Do any of you folks have advice about anti-uv film for windows. We have a largish window (with textured glass on the inside) that we'd like to have UV film attached too to protect our books.

Right now we have thrown wall hangings over the 3 or 4 book cases the sunlight is hitting, but that means we can't see the books :-( Any advice about brands or anything else on the subject would be welcome.

Here's a bit about an Ultra Violet film: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nancy-doyle-palmer-/ultra-violet-the-paris-hi_b_50...

Good heavens! She's become a Mormon! I guess that's about as anti-Ultra Violet as you can get. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_Violet_(Isabelle_Collin_Dufresne)

When it comes to UV film, you get what you pay for. Also, installation is just as important and selecting the right product -- be sure it's up to your local weather situations. It sounds like maybe you have a double paned window, but I'd still be mindful of it.

PS, I'm a museum administrator.

An alternative approach would be to buy book covers that provide uv protection.

Here's a publication developed by the US National Parks Service on evaluating UV window films:

Not to be a smart aleck, but do you have curtains? And only open them when actually in the room enjoying the view?
The window in my library has a small window with blinds, and I turned them around, so that instead of falling on the floor the light is directed at the ceiling, to keep direct sunlight off my books while still keeping the room bright enough to read.

I've got UV protection on all my windows but direct sunlight through your window will still damage your books.

The Window is a large arched one, high up on the wall, and has nor curtains. We are considering some form of remotely closable blind as an option, since it's so high up.
