I've got a lot of Milo Manara's books, a bunch of the old Fantagraphics Manga, Omaha the Cat Dancer (which was just released in a Complete form), Utopia Unlimited and all the XXXenophiles, among others.
What are your suggestions/favorites?

Welcome, poulsbolibraryguy - this is a topic close to my heart! Personal favorites are Royal Gentlemen Club by 'Nicky' and anything by Leone Frollo These titles aren't easy to find in English (though, given the content, perhaps that doesn't matter). Scenes of spanking, bondage and fetishism, rendered with exquisite style and not a little humor.

As for comics in English, I'm really fond of Art Wetherell, particularly 2 Hot Girls. Shameless smut, with the energy and outrageousness of a Russ Meyer film though going considerably further in any given panel.

A title that may be helpful, though one I've yet to pick up myself, is the two volume Erotic Comix: A Graphic History. By all accounts, this is a great survey and should provide a lot more ideas.

Finally, this may be an obvious suggestion, but I put off acquiring Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie's Lost Girls for years, partly because of the cost of what is a lavishly produced book, and partly because I dreaded being disappointed in such an indulgent personal project by a key comics creator. I shouldn't have worried. Although some of the content is challenging, and consciously so - as discussed here and on every other internet forum - it's a masterpiece.

No more suggestions on this? I'm disappointed!

Sorry, LordB. I've been preoccupied with other matters. But I would certainly give a thumbs up to the work of Ignacio Noe and Massimo Rotundo. The sort of SF-BDSM produced by Michael Manning won't suit all tastes, but I find it impressive.

There's lots more to mention, I'm sure. But that part of my collection is inaccessibly boxed at the moment.

Thanks, paradoxosalpha! Massimo Rotundo is completely new to me, and has a lush, classic BW style that definitely warrants further investigation. (Italy seems to have a wonderful tradition of erotic fumetti - the Glamour International anthologies are full of lovely stuff.) I've seen and liked extracts from the other two artist's work, but have yet to pick up any of their books.

Any more suggestions and favorites from the Honorable Members of erotica?

Let's see. Milo Manara and Massimo Rotundo are definitely excellent illustrators, as is Paolo Serpieri and 'Ferocious'. My own favourite is Toni Gries's Alraune - which unfortunately does not seem to be available in a properly bound volume as yet.

poulsbolibraryguy mentioned Phil Foglio's entertaining XXXenophiles - Jean-Pierre Gibrat's Pinocchia and S. S. Cropton's Demi are equally amusing. I can also recommend the all-grown-up Alices drawn by Frank Brunner and Peter Riverstone, respectively.

If your taste leans more to bondage, Lynn Paula Russell or Erich von Gotha are worth a look.

And as LordBangholm notes, Erotic Comix: A Graphic History provides a good source guide for further reading.

Even better, it has a sequel, Erotic Comics 2.

I'm surprised that the Tijuana Bibles Tijuana Bibles: Art and Wit in America's Forbidden Funnies, 1930s-1950s haven't been cited yet. Perhaps more jokey than erotic, but is that just taste?

Good point. I think the Tijuana Bibles must have been the first erotic comics, certainly in English. Hard to say now whether the primary intent was erotic or humorous, but the two elements often work well together, and the parodies and fantasies about celebrities the Bibles featured are still very much part of erotica today.

I'm nowhere near my collection at the moment, but I remember some great stuff from Eros comix back in the day, like Love Bites. Howard Chaykin's Black Kiss was pretty awesome (and it's just been re-released.
Cherry Poptart was okay at first. I still have the first issues of Penthouse Comix, where they paid big bucks for some top-notch comic artists.
Chuck Austin did some nice stuff: Strips and Hardball.
and that's all I can think of at the moment.

Update-Oh Gosh, I have to get this: The Art of Doug Sneyd. He was always a favorite when I was a lad, sneaking a peek at my brother's Playboys in the 60's & 70's.

I stopped actively pursuing sex in comics some time ago, but because I'm sad nobody has mentioned my great favourite, and one of the greatest commercial graphic artists ever... here's a post for Magnus, alias Roberto Raviola. (Touchstones are strange, so, hyperlink.)

I can't believe the splendid 110 pills and the magnificently mad Necron have under twenty holders (or listers) on LT...

I highly recommend his serial Lo sconosciuto (The stranger), which is adventure but with frank erotic episodes, and everything he did on the Alan Ford, Diabolik and Satanik series. The last three don't have graphic sex, but his women (and who ever matters except the women?) are gorgeous (and generally very, very bad).

Vittorio Giardino is another all-around fine graphic artist, in the erotic line I recommend his Little Ego, a sexy spoof of Little Nemo.

I don't care much for Guido Crepax myself but he drew many erotic comics in a highly individual style and deserves at least a mention.

I know Eurotica published a number of Spanish artists; names I can't recall at the moment, nobody struck me as better than adequate journeymen.

I'll have to look up Magnus. When I first saw the covers, it reminded me of Rotundo's Ex Libris Eroticis, another one of my favorites.
Looks like I have a new artist to seek out.

Yes, Little Ego is a hoot. Very well drawn, very silly and sexy.

Not a big Crepax fan either.

I don't know Rotundo... or maybe I don't know the name--I started reading comics quite a while before I began to be interested in the artists. I can still recall many drawings but without names or titles to enable me to find them... drat.

Another sexy series, explicit although not primarily erotic, is Sanchez-Abuli and Jordi Bernet's hard-boiled Torpedo. A loose and fast graphic style which suited the stories (Prohibition era America, gangsters and their molls) very well.
