I thought it might be neat to compile a list of books read in 2011. I use reading dates so I had the data, but I did have to do it by hand.

It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to create a kind of statistic/query based on the the year portion of a 'date finished'. I also manually added up the total number of pages, which also seems the ideal task for the computer and not me.

Maybe this should be a sub-feature of Lists such that Lists could be automatically created based on some search criteria of your library.

ETA: That is the Lists feature that Tim hasn't implemented yet.

I'd definitely like to see this done automatically; I'd probably ask for it as a separate feature, though, rather than trying to incorporate it into Lists.

I do think we'll be able to use Lists as an alternative, though. It will mean duplicating all the effort, but it will be better than nothing.

Actually, for our own catalogues, I think this should be a search/view thing like MDS or lexiles. For lexiles we can enter a start and end to a range, and it shows all the books in that range (at least in theory? I can't seem to get it to work right now, but maybe I'm too impatient). And for MDS, we can drill down within specific categories, which could work for years and months as well.

I'm still sort of irritated that this wasn't just done at the time those features came out.
