Literally the best literary find ever.

It was a gorgeous day today so I decided to go for a drive. I got super lost since I decided to just drive wherever looked nice and spotted a sign for a booksale. Well, the booksale turned out to be three shirtless old men sitting in a garage and about 1,300 (their estimate) books. What's the first thing the owner of the house says to me? "The books are all free."

I told him I was collecting books for a charity sale, since I am, and he had me back up my pick-up truck and helped me load as many books as would fit in the bed. If we started with 1,300 in the garage, I have probably around 800 new books for my sale and they were all free.

And not only did I get 800 free books today, but this man's collection was fantastic. I was absolutely blown away by some of the things he was selling (and more than a little curious what was in the 2,000 books he said he was keeping). He had travel books for what looked to be just about every country in the world, history books on every possible subject, some of them with absolutely beautiful bindings, full sets of several nature series, a set of seven books on WWII by Churchill in great condition. I could go on for days over how nice some of these books are.

And the best news? He asked me to come back tomorrow for the rest.

You better bet I need help. If you happen to live in Connecticut I'll beg you for it. (Do you know how long it takes to sort and move 800 books? A really long time.)

And, yes, I DO know how long it takes to sort and move large numbers of books.
My late father-in-law's library was just over 900 books. I moved them, then sorted them in my house for distribution to the heirs.
About 450 of them are part of my catalog now.
I've rearranged (at the time) all 1,800 of our books according to the Melvin Decimal System, and we're about to do it again (with 2,200 books) using BISAC.
Ask me some time about moving the stock of an Antiquarian Bookseller.

I too, live in Connecticut, where 140,000+ Fairfield County Library book sales, are not uncommon.

I've hauled boxes of treasures away for the equilvalent of 3 or 4 quid.
