Hi, thought I'd join in here.
Just started reading The Mercury 13 It chronicles the story of the first female applicants to the American space program. The passed all the tests but were rejected out of hand by the social pressures and prejudices of the time.

Hi UncleMort; welcome to the group!
I thought The Mercury 13 was very well done history, and a really great book. Hope you enjoy it!

I know that this thread is pretty old but wanted to chime in that I have read this book and it is pretty good. I have first hand knowledge of the Mercury 13 because I became friends with one of the original 13, Wally Funk. I believe she was the youngest member. We met at adult Space Camp in the late 80s and became friends. When I got married in 1992, my husband and I wanted to get married in an airplane since we are both aviation buffs. Wally was one of our pilots and witness as we got married 10,000 ft of Miami. When Eileen Collins flew as the first female shuttle pilot, they invited the remaining Mercury 13 to be VIP guests at the launch. Wally was able to invite a few people and she invited me and my husband to the launch also.
