Our library is a hip-hop resource library for each of our two programs. Our flagship program, the D.C. Urban Arts Academy, is a pre-vocational afterschool program for youth ages 5-23 in the District of Columbia. We engage students that are interested in hip-hop culture, by harvesting an excitement for learning through our three key objectives: Skill Mastery, Employability, and The Pursuit of a Post-Secondary Education. Our second program, the Cipher is a capacity building program designed to strengthen the impact of organizations, scholars and artists who use hip-hop as a tool for civic engagement, youth development, and social change.

WBL is an award winning D.C. based organization, the recipient of the 2009 Lehrman Family Foundation Impact Award, and featured in the Catalogue for Philanthropy 2008-09. In 2009-10, WBL was “adopted” by Busboys and Poets as its arts charity of choice for the period of one year, which including co-branding on their website, fundraising support and discounts of space for events. In January 2012, WBL will celebrate 10 dedicated years serving both local, national and international communities of youth, scholars, artists and organizations. Though we are a young organization, our impact has been extensive.
