He is a good writer with lots of suspense in the real world. (1), complicated by an anti abortion bombing. A bit unbelievable. (1), Interesting story of a WPA Mural project painted by a young artist from Plainfield NY in a small NC town. She won the project in a competition with a local artist that led to a rape (1), A suspenseful read but a bit of an odd story. A young woman seeking to be a writer pens a blog about a bad sexual experience and that story goes awry. She volunteers for a service that helps women get abortions and is partnered with a high profile politic (1), Quirky story about a film editor who was asked to work on a project that really was all about solving a murder from long ago and recreating it. Kinda creepy. Was set in small island off Lewes Delaware where I took ferry to Cape May in 2019. (1), Bruce investigates that murder of an author-friend during a bad hurricane. The investigation gets very complicated but eventually comes to a good conclusion to expose a nursing home scandal. (1), Another good Grisham read but not as good as some others. Follow on from Camino Island (1), Fun read about a "big girl" who is enticed by an old friend who is a user to be in her wedding. Lots of brand and influencer info and interesting tale when bride to be is found dead on her wedding day. Her friend successfully figures out the murderer and (1), a new home and a potential for a new and different life. (1), Great story about firm that focuses on getting wrongly convicted folks out of prison. This was a compelling read that led to many other shady characters as plot to wrongly convict innocent man unfolded. Much better for me than recent Camino books. (1), others not as engaging. Ford always writes about people in my generation so it is comforting and somewhat affirming and makes me feel at home. (1), murder and a new identity. Her mentoring of a young black artist led to challenges but he saved the mural. Jump ahead another troubled young artist is commissioned to restore the mural by the black artist. An interesting comparison between pre WWII US and (1), A fast read with much back and forth from high school to adult times with lots on crazy connections. All works out okay but amazing how youth experiences form adult selves. (1), relationship with her past ex and her friends. Very self-absorbed and went back and forth between time periods- confusing. (1), her relationship with her kinda crazy mother (1), Story about a 30-something woman trying to find herself (1), Interesting story about a family who decided to spend time at sea with a sad ending with the husband's death from fever. Showed ins and outs of their relationship and family life. Wife became a great sailor and also broke through after the trip by complet (1), Interesting premise with main character finding letters and recipes from previous homeowner and comparing her marital life in the home with the previous owner. Ending seemed a bit unreal to me. I thought the couple had become so distanced that they did no (1), Not as good as other Sue Miller's. Very detailed analysis of a woman's life with her husband and a reaction to her death. It portrays how complicated and challenging relationships can be but was to me rather boring and just too navel-gazing at this time. (1), Very well-written and fascinating story based on the letters from Jane Austen to various relatives. Her sister Cassandra was the focal character who led an interesting but single life and was a key companion for her rather unorthodox sister. The views of (1), Some of these stories were good (1), Crazy story about a young pregnant girl delivering pizza who gets involved with a woman she delivers to. Lots of family relationship influences with a mad trip out of LA. Not an enjoyable read. (1), Fun and quick read but really all about the rich and famous Asian and WASP New Yorkers. Does not resonate right now but could see it as an entertaining movie. (1), Lots of shady goings in this easy to read suspenseful saga set on a rocky island off coast of Ireland. Lots of interesting characters with plenty of shady history and all kinds of prior challenging history and relationships (1), but all ended well. The ending was somewhat unrealistic that Caitlin was able to talk her murderer out of it.............. (1), deranged mother and her vicious accomplice (1), Nora Roberts is always a good read. this one was rather predictable in that the guy who first saved the heroine ended up her true love. Lots of scary happenings from a selfish (1), Story that shows that shocking dreams do come true. Main character dreams of being in a place with a person in five years. She tried to avoid thinking about this premonition but it does come true in the break-up of her engagement (1), the death of her best friend (1), the wife of Jesus. She was a very independent woman in her time. It would have been unusual for Jesus not to have a wife although scripture says he did not. Fascinating story that has some grounding in the history of the time (1), Good read about a fascinating family of 3 sisters who found out they had another sister when their father died. Warm story about family relationships and how some complex challenges all worked out. Father's true nature really came to light upon his death (1), Even thought there has been tons of controversy (1), she has writer's block (1), Well-written but rather odd story about a woman who is in a challenging personal period where she needs to wear her dog in a baby sling - similar to a comfort animal. Her marriage is challenged (1), hard to follow. She got way too involved in politics and Kennedy death. Not easy to follow and too precious. (1), Washington high society. Was very representative of white privilege (1), Diary of woman who was involved with Jack Kennedy (1), this was the detailed diary of an epic journey of a mother and her son to freedom in the US. I am so glad she got in - not sure that would happen anymore. What struggles and what courage she and her son lived through. A sad tale o four times. (1), Good thriller with lots of interesting story lines and a definite story for the next novel. A family story unfolds into many different plots! (1), her son is a teenager. A bit odd and main character makes odd choices but seems to end up in a good place. (1), relate to a young black woman. This young black woman babysits for a white woman who is so superficial and cares about how her own life looks. Young black woman also meets a man in a difficult situation where her role of care-taker of the daughter of the (1), who had a previous challenging relationship based on racial issues (1), Interesting story demonstrating implicit racism in our society in the manner in which two white people (1), is working with a patient who cannot recall his identity. She specializes in similar cases and is called in to work with this patient who ultimately reveals himself to be a determined killer who is after this young doctor. Lots of intrigue and exciting pa (1), Compelling story about 2 main characters with challenging pasts. A young doctor with a new identity due to her father killing himself and stealing money from many people's investments. (1), he lived with his aunt and uncle and developed a relationship with a young girl who supported him and later became his wife. it was so hard to recover but when he began reaching out to families of other victims - which his uncle had been sheltering him fr (1), her best friend is dying (1), A good read about sisters who were estranged over many issues and reunited in the end. Set in philadelphia (1), Intriguing story about a jury who decided NOT to convict a alleged murderer. One of the jury members never got over the verdict and initiated a documentary 10 years later about what really happened. The jury reconvenes and the instigating juror gets murde (1), who seemed to be a good guy (1), it was a great story (1), Very interesting imagined tale of Ana (1), Good story representing the racial inequity and stereotyping still prevalent in the US with a very sad ending. (1), So well written by Anne Tyler- story of somewhat lonely 40+ man who encounters some folks in his life that make him realize that he does not want to be alone. Very spare but touching. (1), Fascinating and easy read about the women of Plymouth Colony and the vagaries of organization and politics. It was pretty hierarchical - not to be surprised - but not as positive as I had imagined. Very interesting (1), was not at all and was putting the entire family at risk. A good read! (1), A suspenseful read with a surprise but good ending.. An earnest mother finds herself in a complicated situation which ultimately was caused by multiple personality challenges she had. Her husband (1), one sister has become a police officer and is challenged in that job. Her younger sister is addicted (1), Great read about a complicated saga of several families set in Ramapo NJ area. (1), she gets blamed and leaves the school. She continues the relationship with the teacher once she is 18. He gets involved with other students as well. Frankly hard to understand how she continues to stay involved. She does get some help eventually and is on (1), Challenging tale about a young woman who was involved with her teacher at a private school. The relationship becomes known (1), history of WWI and II and work and struggle of his wife and her relationship with world leaders as well. (1), Interesting bio and life story of Clementine - wife of Churchill. Glimpse into Churchill's personal struggles (1), etc. they have a very intense history and have had little contact for many years. The cop is determined to find her sister when prostitutes start getting killed and ultimately they are reunited and with their dad. Lots of interesting characters (1), has a hard life (1), Very interesting tale of an English woman who was seen as the "ugly duckling" in her family of 4 other sisters. Although there was excruciating detail (1), Challenging story of a young woman and her tortured family who are religious zealots using snakes for healing and moonshine makers or shiners. Interesting characters and story with lots of twists and amazing that this is set currently in West Virginia. Se (1), a view of English life and it all worked out in the end. An enjoyable read and well-written (1), Quick suspenseful read but rather confusing and focus on genetic testing seems odd. Combo story of rich couples with intertwined histories sat a weekend getaway and people trying to find their father who connect through genetic connection groups. (1), a sister-in-law (1), Story about 3 siblings who lost a strong-willed mother and are celebrating first Christmas without her. One couple wants to have the mother's house and that generates some controversy that is ultimately settled. Alice (1), Nana died at the end. Daisy's death was revealed at the end but that was surprising at least to me. (1), had been killed earlier in life and was participating as a spirit. Nana and her great-granddaughter planned it all (1), Quirky tale about a family coming together to celebrate Nana's 80th birthday and everyone is being killed. Maybe I missed the cues but Daisy (1), Easy read about a woman dying of cancer who comes to a hospice in her best friend's home town. Nice story about their relationship and families. Best friend gets back with her husband at the end but seems rather superficial. YET hospice is so challenging (1), interesting family history of close folks who were rich Philadelphians who also loved their summer homes in Maine. Two main characters and many tales about their families and friends. Controversy re future of point but ultimately given to native Americans (1), allowing actions with a child that were not feasible in any way. Rather disjointed. (1), but has some romance and soul-searching for Carrie. Her dad passed away almost at the end and that passing seemed to mellow Carrie. She ended up coaching her biggest rival. (1), her career and her relationship with her dad as her coach. It was rather repititious - match after match (1), she was forced to revisit the crime and realized she had ID'd the wrong person. She found the killer but it was a big surprise and she almost lost herself and her husband. Good read. (1), 3 novellas all interesting. Great writing as usual. The first story felt like it was not really finished. (1), and her health challenges with leukemia. She has many supportive friends and it all worked out well but health challenges can be devastating. She was blessed with her devoted second husband. (1), finding a new love (1), is a social worker and gets too close to a client (1), Lovely written story about a young girl who stays with a family while her mother is pregnant and wants them to be her own family. Sad for her who would rather stay with her foster family. (1), sister of Nora Ephron (1), A rather quaint tale about a young woman who moves to Monterey pre-Civil War. She is widowed and glad of it and becomes a prostitute. She and her lesbian friend hunt down a man killing girls and move on with their lives. A bit off-putting but interesting. (1), Great family story- very well-written (1), Another one that sounded good but ended up being very far-fetched. Young authors summoned to a retreat with a famous female author they admire turns into a scam for the author to publish their writing and with several young authors and writer's staff dead (1), Rather odd story of a young woman who had a boy friend who was very odd. Her friend died unexpectedly with the boyfriend and it haunted her and got her on drugs. She was trying to get off the drugs and saw a video where another girl had died with this guy (1), Great read if you are a Bosch fan. Two scary tales and Harry and Renee Ballard solve both. Harry has an illness which seems to be fatal so this may be the last Bosch book............... (1), detailed tale and was rather tangential as to how the author for this film star's memoir was selected until we discover at the end. (1), This was an interesting read that gave the deep back-story of Hollywood in the 50's - 80's and how it did or did NOT deal with LGBTQ issues. Long (1), Little slow to start as connection with rest of story was not clear. Stuck it out and thinks picked with an detailed and intricate story about the Dixie mob in Biloxi and how it was brought down to a great extent. (1), Interesting story about a Native American woman finding out about her past and who killed her mother - who she thought abandoned her. Lots of Native American lore - some believable (1), It was rather long and tedious and did not cover new territory - knew some from Netflix show - but he did seem to be treated very badly and get a raw deal. I think his mother would have wanted him to break away and not have his family suffer. A sad but pr (1), Light and entertaining about a lawyer on house arrest and another building resident on house arrest as well meet up and develop a great relationship. Not heavy but very entertaining. (1), Touching and heart-breaking story by Rob Delaney about his son Henry who died at 2 years old from brain cancer. The family saga and struggle is so authentic and health care system in UK is so much better than in US. Rob Delaney - Castrophe (1), when the father of all sets us a plan to kill many of his kids and the main character's finance is found to be a serial killer is not believable. (1), Another interesting family drama with lots of twists with many characters but the end (1), Interesting story about a young woman whose mother dies and leaves a family mansion to a university development person to create a youth arts program. Daughter is extremely upset and had a long-lasting affair with this development person as an underage te (1), some not. But was a good story and in the end it was revealed that this woman's grandfather killed her mother. (1), of the loss of her husband (1), Interesting tale with a number of intertwining stories between wealthy Goss family and their employees and neighbors. Interesting characters but somewhat hard to follow as they were all related but lots of back and forth between times. Although lots of dr (1), Well-written and interesting story of a romance between a divorced mom (42) with 2 sons and her butcher ( 22). The ups and downs of the age difference and fascinating amid the context of Brexit and family dynamics. A good read and a very realistic narrati (1), had a nice ending (1), both places I know. Was okay but most interesting because she grew up in Davis and moved to Ithaca (1), Not much time to read so I skimmed. Bad timing in light of current pandemic. Rampant rabies disease in humans and animals. Pregnant woman loses her husband to an infected person who infects her. Saga with her doctor friend trying to get her treated and de (1), her mother and stepfather who ultimately killed the mother. Not clear what attracted the mother to the 2nd husband. The daughter worked out her grief and her own sense of guilt in writing the memoir. (1), Very sad story and quick read about the difficult life of a daughter (1), but just a bit out there. (1), Hot best-seller but kind of wonky. Lots of characters are set up in a hostage setting with a bank robber who is not really a bank robber. Interesting relationships develop between the characters and the cop team - father and son - who are investigating. H (1), Fascinating story set in small Irish village that showed how informal community leaders were trying to keep the town together. When Cal (1), Some interesting stories but others did not hang together. Kinda all over the map. Was not sure of theme other than craziness of life and relationships. (1), Rather quirky story about 3 women friends who are clearing out the summer home of a 4th friend recently deceased. They all have unique personalities and issues and seem rather contentious which may have been smoothed over by their deceased friend ( who sl (1), indigenous girl who was adopted and later shunned by English was very sad. (1), Horrible conditions on voyage and in prison. Good ending with a united family. Mathinna (1), Very interesting tale of the fate of women prisoners from England who were sent to Australia in 1840's to serve time in prison (1), including a bible that used "she" in all pronouns. Not clear to me if this figure was real or if the mother was having a crisis in identifying herself and/or dealing internally with two identities. Not satisfactory and message rather unclear. (1), Fun read about a nice neighborhood with lots of kookie residents. Interesting but most of these folks are living in such a privileged world and they don't seem to take much seriously. (1), a retired Chicago cop (1), A compelling story of a small English village where everyone knows everyone and a young single mother and her older teacher friend are murdered with her baby kidnapped. Lots of family intrigue with long-standing harsh relationships and lots of interesting (1), Rather odd story of a black and Japanese gay couple in Houston. The Japanese guy went to Japan to care for his dying father and his mother came to stay with the black guy whose family was also challenging. Not sure how it all ended - glimpses of various r (1), Fascinating story about a family with 6 out of 12 children having schizophrenia. Crazy family tale. Lots of info on the schizophrenia -way too much detail for me and a crazy dynamic. Anne Cain loved it. (1), Dawn re-united with Wyatt in Egypt and also found out that Wyatt was biological father of Meter. Dawn and Wyatt came back from Egypt together and it was not clear how life was going to evolve. This one was confusing and not a compelling read for me. (1), but life took its twists and she became a deal doula. The focus on the egyptoloy was distracting. Her soul mate was Wyatt a fellow egyptologist but she had to leave him when her mother died and she married Brian and had her daughter Meter. The career as a (1), this one was challenging for me. It is a story of Dawn who originally wanted to be an egyptologist (1), Although I usually look forward to Jodi's books (1), Grisham is always a great read. Good story about a young boy and his down and out family living with an abusive sheriff. Boy kills sheriff believing he killed his mother and was afraid fo himself and his sister. Jake Brigance is assigned the case and the (1), Well-reviewed historical fiction focused on a healing woman - May Belle - and her daughter Rue who also has those powers. Life before and after the Civil War is depicted vividly. Rue's relationship with the master's daughter Varinda and other slaves is cl (1), bought property there he was ready for retirement but a local young person connected with him to use his skills to investigate their brother's disappearance - family was very poor. Cop took the bait and got very involved in the Dublin drug trade in his co (1), a teaching job and a new boyfriend. Ending was much happier than rest of book and somewhat unrealistic. (1), and is able to reflect on which one is best for her and breaks up with the older writer. She ends up with a publishing contract (1), poor housing and trying to finish the novel along with her mother's death and a tough family past. She gets involved with two men (1), Tale of a young woman who has worked for years on writing a novel while all her peers have gone on to sustainable careers. She is struggling with a low-paying waitress job (1), Easy read with a tortured story and happy ending. Main character really made an effort to help a young girl on behalf of his grandfather (1), Fun read about family struggles in US Virgin Islands. Mom and 2 sons all end up happing even after a terrible hurricane! (1), Excellent and detailed account of a Harvard murder and its investigation that was fraught with mistakes and challenges. Also story of author's life as she followed this saga - she is Susan Lynn's cousin! Great writing - lots of characters and info but fas (1), Excellent well-written story about a boy who was the sole survivor of a plane crash where he lost his parents and brother and how he coped with that terrible loss. (1), Rather odd and disturbing story about young people enrolled in an extremely rigorous arts high school. Adults around these students treated them harshly and took advantage of them sexually. Students had odd (1), Seemed to be interesting initially - story about a young family and interesting research that the mother was doing. Then a woman appears who is the doppelganger of the mom and seems to want to take over the family. Seems to be related to articles found in (1), Interesting glimpse into the north fork versus the south fork on long island. Cultural differences abound. Several interwoven plots - all worked out okay but got rather crazy during the book and main character who lost her job went off the rails - somewha (1), Interesting story re shooting and hostages at abortion clinic. Hostage negotiator's daughter was in the clinic with her aunt (mother) getting birht control pills. Good readable story that highlights challenging issues of the abortion controversy. (1), Always a good read but this one was a bit strange. Nine folks attend a "detoxing" session at Tranquillum House set in Australia. We get to know the participants and the folks who are leading this session. The wacky owner of the house creates a strange ses (1), Not very well-written and a very personalized version of a young woman's live as part of the President's team but interesting to someone who served in the Obama administration and was guessing at some of the characters. (1), Well-written but odd story about a woman who had a hard time finding herself and ultimately did in an odd Baltimore neighborhood relating to a random group of neighbors but not sure if she changed her life or not at the ending. I think she would do so but (1), Story about a rich family and one from "other side of tracks" and how their kids related to each other. Fairly predictable but interesting to see how mom who had been part of wealthy clan for years suddenly decided to give up wealth and the trappings. Rei (1), Interesting read about a rich family with all kinds of secrets. Maid of honor has untimely death that leads to unraveling many connections and secrets. Set on Nantucket. (1), Well-reviewed but a bit hard to follow. 5 girls were stranded on a camping expedition and how this experience impacted their lives was focus on book. Did not think sequencing of incidents and girls' lives was effective. (1), Somewhat suspenseful but switching back and forth between 2 story lines got confusing. The story line of the older characters was somewhat unbelievable. (1), parents divorced. Later the mother met a man with a child who resembled her lost daughter. They became involved and ultimately main character realized her daughter had been killed after she had a baby who was the young girl. Lots of complicated relationsh (1), Very intriguing story about a family whose child disappeared and was never found.. Family was damaged (1), Touching story about how a divorced couple who led separate lives for many years came together through adversity to create a happy but unique living situation and better support for the woman's daughter. Interesting but not particularly compelling or real (1), how they were freed and the challenging recovery and difficult trail they had to go through. Interesting glimpse of historic Albany and the social mores at the time. (1), Very well-written story set in Albany NY in late 1800's about 2 young girls who were kidnapped in a brutal snowstorm (1), Book club read - had some interesting situations and facts but jumped all over her live travels. I know they tried to theme it but was hard to follow. She had tons of interesting experiences. (1), Inspiring story of life of Michelle Obama - a great first lady and a great woman. Honor to have the opportunity to work with her. (1), Three generations of women and how they dealt with life. (1), Imposter syndrome that reunites a mother and her daughter but not the real daughter. After a marriage is dissolved (1), Highly recommended but meandering story of professor who cares about students and shows it but seems to be rather lost. Confusing narrative on professor who never really was there - confusing. (1), particularly the 3 sisters who each deal with it differently. Fiona (1), Family saga of one brother and 3 sisters - good characterizations. Father's early death sends mother into "the pause" which bonds kids together. Mother recovers yet brother Joe is wounded and ultimately dies. This death impacts family (1), Goofy but fun story about a yearbook that has a life of its own. Daphne was willed the yearbook by her mother who was the yearbook advisor for class of 1968. Quite a story regarding her commitment to her students. Daphne tossed it out and it was found by (1), Interesting family saga about 4 adult siblings who have difficult intertwined histories. One of the siblings Althea and her husband Proctor go to jail for food stamp fraud - not clear exactly what - and one of their daughters turned them in. Family focuse (1), Quick enjoyable read about two families who vacation in puerto vallarta. They are caught in a political crisis but also emotional ones. The ending was not satisfying to me. Main character wife found out husband had had an affair and there was no resolutio (1), Interesting story weaving the ravages of the AIDS epidemic and its impact on a group of people as well as a similar saga during WWI represented in art pieces. Interesting adn tied together well for the most part. (1), Interesting story about two tales of young women who were lost or almost lost in freezing river currents. The fate of two families became intertwined and a long- unsolved murder of an innocent young woman was solved due in part to the frightening accident (1), Interesting quirky stories in US and England (1), Read after NYT review. All about a young woman who gets involved in a psychiatric survey experiment that leads to a crazy psychiatrist and her goofy husband. Somewhat interesting and/or spooky but unbelievable. (1), Woman obsessed with her celebrity neighbor totally loses her life with that obsession. Very sad to see demise of this woman after trying to conceive and losing everything but just did not seem very realistic. So much damage to herself - and killed her ex- (1), . Needs more explanation of killing the kids - let down at end of story. (1), Spooky story and detailed characterization of a nanny and her family BUT she kills the kids and it is really left unexplained except that nanny is rather nutty (1), Well-written story of family in the Dakota and the dad's bounceback in his career with help of his son as well as the son's interesting relationship with neighbor John Lennon. Impact of John;s death on Dad's talk show very impactful. (1), the truth is revealed and the real daughter is reunited with her famiily. Sappy ending but was a good read. (1), falls in love with a similar conniving man - they don't really reveal themselves to each other. Interesting saga and woman ends up caring for her 2 children that was her ultimate goal. (1), Another great read by Lisa Scottoline. This one focuses on 4 high school students who were involved in a new student accidentally killing himself. This accident haunted them all in different ways for years. Good characterization and the truth finally and (1), Grisham is always a good read but this was a bit of an unbelievable story about 3 law students who dropped out of a dodgy law school and starting practicing law unlicensed. They followed a scandal discovered by a fellow student who committed suicide and p (1), although his wife knows about it. Rather weird and makes for a disturbing life-long connection in this marriage. (1), A quick read by author of Mad Men. Quirky story about a could whose lives are centered around their daughter in an unhealthy way. Their upper middle class life is disrupted when their apartment building is under construction and a worker begins to lurk ar (1), being raped as a young girl and how that impacted her view of her body and herself for the rest of her life. How she is coping and coming to accept who she is - very uplifting and realization of a constant struggle. (1), Interesting and heart-wrenching story of Roxanne Gay (1), made mistakes and story was just not that believable to me. (1), seemed naive (1), Fun (1), This book was an ode to Paris as well as a challenging story of a young boy. The boy's parents were divorced and he was really treated as an afterthought. He had an odd relationship with his mother and his father was very distant and not a role model. I think it is part of the current trend toward books like Hillbilly Elegy - how poor whites are not well off and are not likely to succeed.
