A propos de ma bibliothèque
This LT account will have a list of books found in two accession books from the WPA project. These books were owned by the WPA and lent to public libraries, bookmobiles, and schools around the state. In essence, this will give us a glimpse of what a public library in 1942 in South Carolina might have had on their shelves.
A propos de moi
The South Carolina State Library is digitizing historical images and documents from the Depression. Many of these documents relate to the Works Project Administration (WPA) Library Project in South Carolina, which provided statewide library services from 1935 to 1943.

The WPA's major objective was to provide each county of the state with some measure of area-wide public library service. The WPA library program helped establish library service in some areas and enhanced existing libraries' operations in others. The WPA program made possible the establishment of bookmobile service in 23 counties formerly without rural library service.
