A propos de ma bibliothèque
I managed to catalog about 2/3 of my library here before I all but gave up. Still, there's more here than not. I shelve (and therefore catalog) by category, including: fiction; general nonfiction (a lot of critical and cultural theory, a lot about race in the United States, esp. African American/white race relations); poetry; drama; biography; education; adoption and parenting (both theoretical and practical); queer studies (fiction, theory, self-help etc.); religion (especially, but not exclusively Christianity) and a nice set of Library of America editions of American literature.

My collection reflects my undergraduate days as an English language and literature major, a Master's degree in religious education, K-12 teacher's certification, coming out as a lesbian in my late 20's, a PhD in American literature with an emphasis on gender, race and sexuality between 1870 and 1920, and two transracial adoptions.

The fact that I buy (rather than borrow) most of my books and hold onto them forever probably reflects having grown up the child of an independent bookstore owner.

I have lately acquired hundreds of public domain titles for my iPad and (eep!) sold their paper versions to the used bookstore as a result. I don't entirely trust the Powers That Be not to delete my iPad one day while I'm sleeping, so I do stick mostly to public domain where that is concerned. But I am allergic to dust and reducing the collection on the shelves, while somewhat gut-wrenching is also oddly refreshing.
A propos de moi
I have been writing about family, parenting, politics and religion since 2000. My work has appeared on Babble.com, BlogHer.com, Literary Mama.com, LesbianFamily.com, in Adoptive Families Magazine, Gay Chicago Magazine and elsewhere. My debut novel, _Jack_, is available from Musa Publishing (http://musapublishing.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=648) everywhere e-books are sold. You can also read a serialized version of my previously unpublished novel, _Eden_, at
http://edenatstorysea.wordpress.com.

I share two daughters via adoption with my partner of over a decade. We divide our time between Chicago and Urbana, Illinois.
