My first book, The Optimist (Ohio UP), was a finalist for a 2004 Los Angeles Times Book Prize. My second book, Accepting the Disaster, was published in 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, and cited in the TLS, New York Times Book Review, and elsewhere as a best book of the year. My poems have appeared in periodicals including The Paris Review, The New Yorker, and Poetry, which awarded me its 2013 Levinson Prize. I’ve received fellowships from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation. From 2017 to 2020, I taught poetry and creative writing as a visiting artist at Northwestern University.
