smart (1), A wonderful way to read a 500 page book-more of a graphic novel/film format with text. A mystery told with beautiful illustrations. Caldecott Winner (1), The evils of television (1), a look at tests and test taking (1), So much fun (1), A very interesting read. Set in a modern Native American community in Alaska. The Trap is a real animal trap that has Johnny Least-Weasel's grandfather in trouble but it is also a metaphor for Johnny's feeling of being trapped between 2 cultures. Smelcer (1), a surprise ending love story set in England. Gender identities are questioned. (1), Meg Rosoff always pushes the envelope. I think it is best for older teens (1), Mellen tells a great story with research done by Mary Kawena Puku'i. Hawaiian history comes to life in this Historical Novel about Hawaii's greatest king. (1), kind of invisible with an active imagination. She meets a talking rat (a class pet) and a boy in class who lead her into mystery and intrigue. A fun read. (1), I kept thinking what would happen if our island starting to sink...where would we all go? Mara is a captivating heroine and the subject is timely and the read is fun and scary. (1), Emmy's character reminds me of how I felt in 5th grade (1), 2 teens from each fight to the death for limited resources on a televised game show- Great characters..a sequel must follow. (1), 12 districts (1), North America is Panem (1), Great Read. Sort of like Survivor in the future (1), and discovering solace and strength in reading and literature in a secret library "Climbing the Stairs". (1), I enjoyed this book because the storyteller is a young Indian girl growing up in London during WWII dealing with family and political issues of the time (1), resourceful kids (1)
