I don't ask much of a book: only that it be well-plotted, well-written and populated by distinctive characters.

Born in Scotland, I followed a long historical tradition (William Wallace, Bonnie Prince Charlie, John Law, ...) and fled to France many years ago. Most of my life has been spent working as a management consultant, but I've managed to write a few crime novels on the way.
