A propos de ma bibliothèque
I started my library, now with around 3,500 bookd, back in the 70's while I still lived in my hometown, Cataguases, in the state of Minas Gerais. When I moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1974 I already had 80 books which was a great thing for someone living in a town where we did not even had a bookstore. My books range from literature, to money laundering, to philosophy - they are in a way a picture of my different interests in the different parts of my life. I love to buy books and hope I will have the time to read most of them before I have to leave... But books, I keep telling my friends, are objects that are meant for a lot of things, reading included. For my good friends I always make clear that I haven't read of my books... one of my old projects is to read some of William Faulkner's books, basicly The Sound and the Fury and Sanctuary. I am a fan of the poetry of William Blake and Camoes.
A propos de moi
I am 53 years old and live in Brasilia, Brazil. I have a master's degree in international relations and a doctor's degree in social sciences both by the Unversity of Brasilia. I have worked at a federal bank for over 32 years and now I am involved with internal controls and compliance subjects (actually my theme in my dissertation and thesis were on money laundering). Presently I am reading Pascal, the Pensées, in Portuguese ("Pensamentos"). I am deeply interested in philosophy, ethics, history of cristianity and all the pain and join it has brought about (mainly concerned with the pain though). I was a Rotary exchange student in the US back in 1971 and that is how I have some command over the English language. I still have my American mom up-state New York and we often talk over the telephone.
