A propos de moi
After over two decades in molecular genetics research, Beverly Akerman realized she'd been learning more and more about less and less. Skittish at the prospect of knowing everything about nothing, she turned, for solace, to writing. Her fiction collection, The Meaning Of Children, just won the 2012 J.I. Segal Jewish book award, made the CBC – Scotiabank Giller Prize 2011 Readers’ Choice Contest Top 10 and was awarded the 2010 David Adams Richards Prize. Winner of the Professional Writers Association of Canada’s Short Article Award, and many others; multiple nominations for the Pushcart Prize and multiply submitted to the National Magazine Awards. Credits include Maclean’s Magazine, The Globe and Mail, The Hill Times, The Montreal Gazette, The National Post, OpenFile.ca, The Toronto Star, CBC Radio’s Sunday Edition, myriad literary magazines, scientific journals, and other publications. Beverly is strangely pleased to believe herself the only Canadian writer ever to have sequenced her own DNA.
