À mon sujetI have always loved books. My parents, who could never agree on much of anything else, love books. My husband loves books. Both of my children love books.

I love old-fashioned public libraries, where people talk quietly, and there is a reverence for books. I worked in one for eleven years. The high point of my work week was finding the New York Times Book Review in my mailbox.

It is important to me how a book feels in my hands when I hold it. And, yes, sometimes I do judge a book by its cover.
