About my book collection...wow, that's different. Looking at my collection as it stands, I'm predominantly a reader of Fantasy, I guess. It's kind of interesting in that upon reflection, I can see all of the different phases of genre that I went through. When I was a kid, I read just about everything - old school classics, age appropriate fiction, etc. When I hit middle school, I read my first Redwall book - The Bellmaker - and that sent me on this massive Fantasy kick. The Magic Kingdom series was my first real foray into reading it as a series, and I dove into the genre with gusto, reading nothing but.

One summer, I was just looking for anything to read, and saw a copy of Desperation by Stephen King and thought to myself "That is a huge book." And so, based on that alone, I checked it out (this is back before I could afford to go around buying all the books I wanted) and was amazed not only at the darkness, but the scale of the horror; I'd never read such before. It was here that I entered my King/Crichton faze of reading, going through thriller and horror.

I have no idea where I got it from, but Vertical Run was my first action-thriller title. That again was an eye-opening experience, because it's a pace and style of writing that I just wasn't accustomed to. From there, I moved on to the Bourne Identity, and that's when Rober Ludlum took over my life. NEVER had I held a book that so kept me enthralled and unwilling to stop reading, be it to eat, sleep, or anything else. I've made it my goal to collect as many pieces by him as possible, and am on my way to success.

I returned to Fantasy my freshman year of college, when I joined the Science Fiction Book Club. My first order from them was comprised of a bunch of books by artists I'd never heard of: The Evergence Trilogy by Sean Williams and Shane Dix, Wizard for Hire - a compilation of the first 3 Dresden Files books, Daemons, Inc., and The Black Company: Glittering Stone 1 and 2.

Jim Butcher's officially my favorite author now: he keeps pumping out the goodness twice a year with his Dresden Files and Codex Alera novels. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is my favorite book, though. Douglas Adams was a friggin genius, and has brought more joy to my life in that one work than any compilation by any other author.
