NZ Friends of Israel Association Inc fights prejudice and intolerance by raising awareness of Jewish history and culture.

Originally formed in the mid-1970s by the Jewish community to act as a voice in NZ to address the often ignorant commentary being published about the Munich Massacre and then the Yom Kippur War.

Since then those original members have grown old and passed away. Their children shifted to Melbourne and Sydney Australia in search of jobs and spouses.

Over the years, membership without a Jewish heritage have grown and taken their places. Today, over 95% of members did not grow up with a Jewish heritage, yet are interested in Israel and the Jewish people.

Their interest might have originated through the bible, previous travel through Israel, worked on a kibbutz, served as part of a UN peacekeeping force or they may have Jewish friends. Whatever way they came to be interested in Israel and the Jewish people, they are all united in wanting to fight prejudice and intolerance, wherever it may be found.
