A propos de ma bibliothèque
A Work in Progress slowly taking over the house. Eclectic. Mostly Fiction as I love to EscApE. Constantly being added to. The UPS guy and I exchanged Christmas gifts last year to give you some idea of the enormity of the situation. And we did again this year!

"I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves."
(Anna Quindlen, "Enough Bookshelves," New York Times, 7 August 1991

For it is the greatest truth of our age: information is not knowledge."
Caleb Carr
(Killing Time. Random House, 2000, p. 5)

"Knowledge without wisdom is a load of books on the back of an ass."
Japanese proverb

Maybe I'm not the star athlete, but with a ghost story I can scare the fuck out of every kid. It's empowering."
Clive Barker
(Wired News article, 12 March 2001)

"It's called freedom of choice, and it's one of the principles this country was founded upon. Look it up in the library, Reverend, if you have any of them left when you've finished burning all the books."
George Carlin

"Even God cannot alter the way a search engine works."
Employee of Indian portal site Rediff.com

‘When I get some money, I buy books; and if there is any left over I buy food and clothing.’ -ERASMUS

AND MY FAVORITE:

Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired (by passionate devotion to them) produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can peradventure read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity… we cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access, reassurance.
