(1), One of the earliest written works of the Gothic genre (1), this is a classic and great place to start for anyone interested in this area of study. (1), Burton's poetry is just as stylistic as his movies. Dark (1), Science Fiction. That was enough to turn me off (1), but I was assigned to read this for a class. I was hooked by page four and read the entire trilogy all the way through. I loved this trilogy. Highly recommend. (1), Maus was my first exposure to a serious subject being presented in a (usually reserved for) comedic medium. It was quite shocking and eye-opening. I love when books can do that. A must read. (1), The second book of the Vampire Chronicles is my favourite of all of Rice's vampire books. But (1), I recommend you read Interview With The Vampire first because it makes Lestat all that more interesting. (1), This was fabulous! I loved getting to know the family tree of the Mayfair Witches. So interesting (1), the mystery and the mystique. (1), A classic! Loved the representations of the anti-hero and real heroes alike. Thickly layered with meaning and metaphor. A fantastic and relavant read even today! Every graphic detail adds to the story and is richly detailed. (1), Even if you don't believe (1), adventure (1), Fabulous read by a female author raised in Islam and her modern day view of the troubles within her own religion. (1), I like anything that uses it as a spring board to further the tale. Although the premise is interesting (1), This book contains two stories and they were both horribly written. Ugh. (1), Excellent commentary on how language was used before (1), during and after 9/11 vis-a-vis feminism. (1), Mind-crontrol thriller ride. (1), Excellent read! Very interesting and professional analysis of crimes that have held our imaginations captive: Jack The Ripper; Lizzy Borden (1), The JonBenet Ramsey case to name a few. A must for those interested in the True Crime genre. (1), Red Riding Hood being my favourite fairy tale (1), I was disappointed in the writing. The story is lacking umph (1), Narrated through the eyes of a serial killer. A truly frightening look inside the mind of a sociopath. Very well written. (1), still nice to see the tale represent a grown-up Red. (1), Always creepy - never disappoints. (1), Great list of must read books with brief synopses of each one. (1), Loved this book - hard to put down. A modern day mystery and re-write/ode to Henry Miller's The Crucible. (1), Fantastic! Simmons combines historical fact with wonderful fiction brilliantly. Made me want to read more by Dickens and Collins. The narrator (Collins) is completely unreliable and keeps the reader on her toes for the entire book. Highly recommended! (1), One of my favourite books of all time. Wrote my thesis on Lolita discussing it as a modern day retelling of the Red Riding Hood tale. Will always hold a special place in my literary heart. (1), Hilarious! A LOL ride all the way through while still being poignant and touching. Loved this book. (1), Touching... such a great story between and human and his best friend. A must read for any dog lover or anyone contemplating getting a pet. It's a long term/lifetime commitment people! I'll stop preaching now. :) (1), Love books that are ambiguous (1), Not your average vampire tale. It explains vampirism though a scientific lens. The story is told by a coming of age female who is the child of a vampire and human. This book is about her journey in finding herself and what really happened to her family. (1), Interesting premise. Looking forward to the second book in the series. (1), gorgeous language and beautifully descriptive. A wonderful story of self-discovery (1), historical setting and a mystery with supernatural elements. Fantastic read! (1), This book was horrible. (1), don't answer all the questions and leave just enough room for doubt to squeeze through? Then this is the book for you. I loved everything about this book including it's unreliable narrator. It'll leave you wondering if you just read a ghost story or not. (1), Borrowed this book from the library. It's scary. Loved the premise and story all the way through. Excellent read. (1), This book has an interesting premise... and you can see sequel from a mile away. Some parts are very exciting (action parts) while others leave you wanting for more depth. The narrator is a nine year old boy who lost his father in the twin towers. The book is his quest to reconnect with his dad. Very touching. Can't wait for the movie. (1), gets on my nerves. Would have liked more interaction and story involving the rest of the Brothers but I'll take what I can get outta this series. There's very little battle in this novel also. It's very concentrated on Manny and Payne. (1), Fabulous coming of age story filled with romance (1), renewal and friendship. Well worth the read! (1), Interesting slant to the Werewolf lore/genre. Good action and very touching ending. The ending leaves opening for more to come. (1), I liked the premise of the first book Hush Hush (1), so I felt compelled to read this one and Silence. (1), Fabulous book and fabulous job by the authors. Loved that old adds were included in the book demonstrating a history of how feminine products have been sold to women since their existence. Every woman should read this book. (1), Loved the 8th installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood tales. The action is amped up in this book - which is fabulous. My only criticism is that it doesn't have enough interaction with the rest of the brothers IMHO. (1), The 7th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood tales features Rehvenge's story. Since he is one of my favourite characters (1), but found his love interest to be not on par with him... Good read though (1), as it advances the mythology of the Brotherhood's world. (1), A great read - not at all what I was expecting and I'm always delighted to be surprised. Some very strange stories in this collection (1), and I totally adored the first story where the author takes on a job as a Santa's Elf at Macy's. (1), An excellent unschooling resource. Focus is on a new band of brothers introduced and very little about the Lessening society. This installment concentrates on the emotional ties all around and is quite gut-wrenching. (1)
