Sergeant John Kilbourn's small library includes those books mentioned in his will, dated 24 September 1688. An inventory of his estate was taken following his death in 1703, amounting to £348/10/1.

His son John Kilbourn's library is also as documented his will, dated 5 December 1710. An inventory of his estate resulted in an appraisal of £232/9/3.

Note: this library contains the books of both John Kilbourn (1624-1703) and his son of the same name (1651-1711).

John Kilbourn (1624 - 9 April 1703), of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Born in Wood Ditton, England, Kilbourn emigrated in 1635 aboard the ship "Increase" with his parents (Thomas and Frances) and sisters. The family settled at Wethersfield. Kilbourn was tax collector for the town in 1647, and held land by 1649. Several times in the 1650s he was on surveying committees for the town. He was assigned "to be Sergeant at Wethersfield" by the General Court in 1657, and held that post for many years (until a request to be relieved was granted during King Philip's War). He was also selectman eleven times between 1657 and 1681.

Kilbourn served as Wethersfield's representative to the General Court for seven sessions, the first in October 1660, and often served on juries in the colony.

In his will, Kilbourn mentions his wife Sarah (Bronson) Kilbourn; sons John, Thomas, Ebenezer, and George Kilbourn; daughters Naomi Hale, Mary Kilbourn.

John Kilbourn (15 February 1651 - 25 November 1711), son of the above, born at Wethersfield, Connecticut. Married Susannah Hills and later Elizabeth Mitchell. The younger Kilbourn was admitted a freeman on 13 October 1681, and frequently held town offices in Wethersfield and Glastonbury. He had several children by his first wife.
