- A propos de ma bibliothèque
- It's out-of-date, but it's mine.
- A propos de moi
- The 18th of April, 1981, was a wet afternoon. Having worked for two years in an office building above both a bookshop and a second-hand bookshop, I'd managed to amass a fair few books, many of which were still unread. I'd just finished...something. I looked over the shelves, but I couldn't decide what to read. I finally reached out for...something. Which I'd already read. I froze, suddenly struck with how ridiculous this was. I emptied the bookshelves, put the books back in alphabetical order and decided to start with the first, whether I'd read it or not. I kept a record of this, becoming positively anal. I got to L before realising that there was no reason why I should have ignored all the hardbacks and non-fiction from this process. Fifteen years later, my parents died within six months of each other and I inherited their books. I'm only back at C, bar a few A-C's that sneak in because they are later additions or from Mum and Dad. Since then, my reading has slowed to almost a halt. That's a bad thing and needs to be rectified. I love to organise and joining LibraryThing is my first step on the path to reawakening a former passion.
