A propos de ma bibliothèque
I would estimate that I have probably 800 or so books in my collection. I have almost 600 cataloged on my PC at this point, with several more boxes and shelves to go through yet.

The majority is a wide variety of fiction, from Jane Austen to Edward Bulwer-Lytton to Arthur C Clarke. My personal favorite fiction-wise is the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

I also have a good deal of history, ranging from Greece to the US civil war to WWII, and so on.

I have more than a handful of school textbooks as well, both those that I've actually purchased for classes and several "vintage" textbooks.

I guess my philosophy section is worth mentioning too - mostly Buddhism-oriented works, but some other assorted stuff as well.
A propos de moi
I like to read, I'm a packrat, and I have an organizational complex. The consequences of this are that I have a truckload of books and they have to be arranged just so.

Luckily I've just recently discovered this library thing, though I wish it had been sooner. As of this writing (04/26/2007) I was already about three-quarters of the way through classifying, labeling, and shelving all of my books after recently moving.

I've undertaken an effort to classify all of my books according to the Library of Congress system, and I've spent countless hours looking up books through loc.gov and worldcat to come up with call numbers. I have taken some liberties here and there where I wanted certain series' organized in a more logical manner though. Not to mention the fact that the LoC classifies a LOT of books under PZ (juvenile belles lettres) where I prefer them to be included in the PS or PR (American or English literature) sections. I think I've learned a lot about the LC system in the process, and while it seems very robust and logical at times, I often finding myself questioning the judgement of whoever it is that's actually doing the classifying!

I look forward to ditching the MARC-record based system I've been using up to this point in favor of cataloging everything into (and with the help of) LibraryThing.
