This is a capybara.

Capybaras are the largest species of rodent, reaching 4’ long and 21” high at the shoulder. They spend most of their time near or in water, and are herbivorous. They are native to South America.

They have a great deal of dignity and are usually silent. They also have babies, which are gangly and cute like most mammalian young. Capybaras live for about ten years.

Capybaras would be the perfect animal to raise by the thousands on an immense ranch.
